BF3 freezing, repeating sound loop

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm getting the same crashes randomly and only with Battlefield 3. It just locks up, game will crash and the sound loop can only be corrected by reboot. Has anybody experienced this issue?

Overclocks or no, I get the same issues. Countless wipe and reloads were done as well as reinstalling the game several times.

Here is what the Event Viewer came up with.

When you say "Overclocks or no", you mean you have tried with both CPU and GPU at stock clocks or only the GPU ?

I once had a Radeon HD6850 that would cause the exact same problems you are having. It turned out there was a faulty component in the card that triggered a voltage spike, freezing the card and crashing the PC whenever a more demanding game would push the card. If I lowered the VRAM speed below factory settings it wouldn't crash anymore.

I'm not saying your problem is the same as mine, but the symptoms are and you seem to have a good motherboard and a good PSU, so, in principle, that rules out those two components as the source of the problem.

You could try a different GPU if you have one, or try ruling out a faulty memory stick by taking out one at a time and loading the game to see how it behaves.

Hope that helps! Cheers!

Turn off GX option in your ASUS sound card

I am 95% sure its that GX setting causing your sound loop and freezing.

The three most prevalent issues seem to be with

1.) Enabling "GX" mode on Asus Xonar series sound cards
2.) Using onboard Realtek sound with old drivers
3.) Using an outdated version of Punkbuster
4.) Page file is not larger enough

The first one is the easiest to fix, as you just have to disable GX mode.

If your using onboard, make sure to download the latest drivers from the Realtek website http://www.realtek.com/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false.

The third seems to be a fix that doesnt make sense, as Punkbuster is supposed to auto update, none the less, manually updating via this page http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.phpfixed it for me.

I have my page file set at 1.5Gb, You can probably get away with as low as 750Mb, just make sure not to disable it.

I hope one of these solutions fixes the issue for you.
