AMD FX-8120 Throttling @ 61C CPUTIN (CPU# Temps Below 40C)! Speedfan to change CPUTIN Temp with offset? - Page 6

Ok, I just installed my new air cooler: Zalman CNPS10X Extreme and I pushed the PC to the limits with prime95. It seems CPUTIN is hovering around 48-50 Degrees Celsius without any thermal throttling from the MOSFET /CPU in stock clock!/. It seems the aftermarket coolers which blow against Thermalright HR-09U type2 do double job- both cooling CPU and MOSFET heatsink.

Glad to hear it!

New update: I overclocked my FX-8120 on Asrock FX990 Ex3 up to 3.7 Ghz with core voltage of 1.20 It seems stable but I will do some extra blend tests with prime 95. I also tried to OC to 4.0 Ghz but I had to switch to 1.30V to be able to start it and after 10 min the Motherboard's MOSFET / which has a new Thermalright HR-09U type 2 heatsink/ starts to throttle down for several seconds and then getting normal. It seems a huge Voltage difference between 3.7 and 4.0 Ghz. As some guys have said - use stock voltage - that's impossible as it was 1.175V and the Motherboard was with APM -"on" by default. I wonder if I switch off the LLC / all auto - as i'm new to OCing/ will change something.

Edit: 1.20 V has failed , so i'm jumping higher in a search for a stable OC.

same happened to me on a Biostar TA970 mobo with my FX 8320. Turned out, the VRM (despite having heatsinks) was the culprit. the 4 phase VRM sucks. Gonna get the 8 phase VRM

I was thinking about switching to 1 core per compute unit. Will this lower my vrm temp and get more speed ?

So I recently found out that even with Cool and Quiet switched off - some part of it stills works.I don't know if it's intentional. So I have found a way to bypass this throttling via this program "AmdMsrTweaker.exe". It is a command line tool that can be used to modify the states of the cool and quiet to your desires.
Example :
C:\tweak\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe Turbo=0 - switches off turbo (you may use just AmdMsrTweaker.exe Turbo=0 if you are in the same folder)
C:\tweak\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe APM=0 - switches off APM
I got 7 different P states - P0 and P1 - turbo modes, the rest are what we are interested in ( I make all to be the same from P2 to P6)
C:\tweak\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe P3=19@1.1125 - P3 state with multiplier of x19 and voltage of 1.1125V
C:\tweak\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe P4=19@1.1125
C:\tweak\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe P5=19@1.1125
C:\tweak\AmdMsrTweaker_1.1\x64\AmdMsrTweaker.exe P6=19@1.1125 - this one is my P state that is usually set to x7 multi

Warning : I still have issues and freezes even when trying to OC to 3.8Ghz and running prime95 for an hour. It seems that even with my upgraded MOSFET heat sink /with attacked an old 40mm fan to it/ I may not be able to overclock (although I'm still a rockie in OCing).
I have just modded my Thermalright HR-09U Mosfet Heat sink by adding a 4cm gpu fan /in position to suck air from the CPU Cooler towards the rear exhaust case fan/.I also added an old 4cm , slim cpu fan on the back of the CPU socket and it seems my CPUTIN in HwMonitor has dropped quite well. I will try to do a small overclock - 3.7 Ghz and then I will try to make it stable. I 'll update the results after a prime95 successful test.
Ok here what comes. After I got an old 4cm cpu fan on the back of the socket + the 4cm fan from an old gpu on my MOSFET heat sink I managed to overclock up to 3.7Ghz (x18.5) stable with 1.1125V as I failed x19 after 2 hours of priming. My temps are : CPUTIN reaches 62-65 after 10 hours of small FTT test in prime. Core temps never reach more than 32 Degrees (ALL CELSUIS).
