Never owned intel pentiumd or conroe??

Well I been wheeling and dealing sold a bunch of stuff and this rig in my sig and I may go with my first intel...Which has more bang for the buck..I notice the pentium d's have like 2x2mb cache as opposed to 2x1mb on ...say the e6400...Also suggestions on a good intel based mobo would be nice...

Nah! You don't want a Pentium D regardless. I have both and the Conroe is much better.

A good based MoBo? Personally I'll say the P5B Deluxe is the best but there's also the GIGABYTE DS3 and for RAM, definitely the G.Skill DDR2 800HZ is the stuff to get, that I'm pretty sure it will be a unanimous recommendation when it comes to RAM.

That pretty much is the best. I'll mention the P5W-DH Deluxe but it's way too expensive just for the mere fact that it support CrossFire and maybe SLI in the future but nothing an X1950XTX or GX2 can't handle. And performance wise the 965 and 975 is pretty much the same, it's the processor that counts, Conroe is faster than Allendale no matter what.

So a conroe e6400 and the p5b....would the 6600 be worth the extra breads??
Would there be a noticable difference??

the e6400 is actually an allendale and not a conroe, the e6600 is a conroe and it is definitely worth the price, both for the extra power and cache.

If it's the P5B Deluxe and the E6600, that's a good deal.

Also for the G.Skill RAM, this here is what you need: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231065

I have it and I'm seeing the results that other people have, also I've tried a 1000mhz on a 4-4-4-8 @ 2.2v and my 24/7 usage is 4-4-4-4 @ 416mhz (DDR2 832) at 2.15v.
