OCZ Vertex or Agility

Thread Starter
I see that Vertex is faster than Agility but am not understanding why it cost less with fewer people buying it than the Agility line. I'm wanting to buy one of them to load Win7 and run a couple games so I'm only needing a 60GB SSD.

Which one should I go with and why does the lesser model (Agility 3) have so many more people buying it than the faster one?

BTW I'm only buying OCZ due to this being a secondary gaming desktop.. I already realize I might have a few BSOD's before I get everything fixed :/

Thanks in advance for any advice!

The only reason I can think of would be because when they were first released, the Agility wasn't much slower than its Vertex counterpart, but the cost difference was huge. They've been out for a while now, and the price gap has gotten much smaller (and has become non-existent on a few occasions, like you noted).

If they cost the same, I'd pick the Vertex over the Agility in a heartbeat.

Agility series are always a step below in speed than the release for all Vertex 1, 2 and 3 and makes it more affordable...

I originally purchased each of my 30GB Vertex 1's for around $150 each and this was 3 years ago and they are still running perfectly strong and fast in RAID...
Just make sure it's upgraded to the latest firmware 1.7...

I got 2 Agility's for my current gamer because they were cheaper. I have not had any BSOD's due to the hdd though. I'm running a 120 for vista and programs and the other solely for games with a 1TB green drive for storage.

The Agility is super fast coming from mechanical drives and the price seems great for the possible fail rate of a ssd. That was my thinking anyways rolleyes.gif

Like others have mentioned, the Agility 3 was cheaper than the Vertex 3 at first.

But the biggest reason? Shady marketing. All the sandforce 2281 drives "feature" the 500/500 read/writes using Atto. If you're comparing the two and don't know any better, you'd buy the Agility think it's going to be as fast. But throw any incompressible data at it like games, movies or music and comes nowhere near the performance of the Vertex 3.
