or is paying 600 dollars for ONE video card getting a bit ridiculous? The 7970 BE is listed at 599 dollars, who else thinks this is out of line?

Clearly they are popular and people are prepared to pay the price, as most of them are sold out here.

As long as people buy it, I don't think its crazy at all. But then again, I bought 2 smile.gif

Its high end, and this generation. Its always been this way for ultra high end.

I think its fine. You don't need the best. But if you do, you gotta be ready to pay for it.

The 6990 is $699 and the quatro6000 is $3,900 I see no problem with $599 knowing that

It's not ridiculous really.

Look at the performance you get, a 7970 is faster than a GTX 580, and yes some people have money for these cards so yes they do sell.

Also, you're on OCN ridiculous is what we do. thumb.gif

Personally I don't upgrade as soon as new cards come out. I'm happy with my 570's performance and probably won't upgrade my card for at least a year (I am building a new PC next month but my current 570 will be used for the graphics card). But there are people that like to buy the latest card and new tech isn't cheap. I doubt I would ever spend $600 on 1 card but just a year or 2 ago I said I'd never spend 300-400$ on a card and here I am with a 570. As with most things, if you want the best its going to cost you.

This is true for ANY product out there in the world. Be that CPUs, GPUs, RAM, or laptops, etc. The Vaio Z, arguably the BEST 13" laptop you can buy commands a $4.5k pricetag, but if you need the best, it's the only one that has what it has.

I'll just quote Anandtech here:
Quote:
The fact of the matter is that since 2008 we’ve become spoiled by AMD’s aggressive pricing. More than anything else the low prices of the Radeon HD 4870 and Radeon HD 5870 made those products superstars thanks to their performance for the price and their undercutting of NVIDIA’s competing cards. The Radeon HD 5870 was definitely fast, but at $379 it was a steal, which is part of the reason prices for it never stabilized at that low a level.

Look at 8800 Ultra, 550$ is not much for an HD 7970. Especially when it actually beats the 580 in price/performance, it's quite low-priced actually.
