Corsair 550D. Thoughts? - Page 10

Hey George, do you know when these will be available in Europe? I asked Caseking, which is a rather big case provider here in Western Europe, and their answer was that they didn't have any information about the case yet frown.gif

We're working to get our parts with Caseking and other guys. Depending on your region, DABS, eBuyer, ENTA, Komplett, and alternate.de will carry them. Should be there in about two weeks.

Sounds great George, thanks! Waiting in anticipation, for my next great case!

I have the Corsair 550D, nice case overall. I was disappointed by the flex in the steel the M/B sits on, the steel around where the side panels attach to and the bottom panel where the PSU sits. With a single fore-finger it pushes in too much for my liking, unlike my Antec Mini P180. When I read the words "steel structure" on the product page it inferred strength to me which was part reason I bought it - this case doesn't reflect that in my view. In its closed position, the clickable side removable panel on my case doesn't sit flush. Also, the entire top panel feels as if it's plastic.

@CorsairGeorge - Is the Corsair 650D a stronger case than the 550D? I ask because it seems thinner metal and plastic are the ingredients for a silent case, what the 550D advertises, where the 650D doesn't. Just curious, thanks.

Corsair George:

Any chance of a 550 style door for the 650?

Without the faceplate cutout at the top obviously but with air slits like the coolermaster stacker 832SE!!

I'd buy that now if it took you 6 months to give me thumb.gif

CEB is just under an inch wider than standard ATX and there does seem to be some room left in the 550d after you install an ATX mobo but not sure if it's enough. Would be great to get a confirmation.

with a nice mobo like that and the longer high end video cards I would get something larger than a 550D

I'm curious to know if the silver plate is removable for the purpose of making a template. I'd want to remove it, make a template onto the 3M Di-Noc material, install that onto the plate, and re-install the plate to the case.

Is this possible without having to drill rivets George? I think I'm looking at my next case, just need to figure out how to sell my Canyon! tongue.gif

So here is the case.

A comparo in height next to the Antec P180. The front door can swing left or right, which is a nice touch. The only thing is that every time you have to open the door, you feel like you are going to break the clips. Thus 4 extra clips in two bags.

Corsair_550D001.jpg

Side shot, showing the interior. The case is very light yet very sturdy. The screws that hold the drive cage were bolted with an air gun as I had to run and get a screwdriver for it.

This picture shows the magnetic filter screen. Front, side, top and bottom have the screen. The bottom is a pull screen which I do not have a picture off.

Corsair_550D004.jpg

There is plenty of space to add a cooler on the top with a push pull configuration. Size of the fans are 120mm. Wish they made the holes for 140mm as well as they did for the back, side and bottoms fans.

The back of the case shows all the different tie strap location. As well as the big cutout for access to the CPU mounting bracket.

Corsair_550D006.jpg

The second picture shows the gap between the side cover and the back of the case for all the cable management. I had to use a SATA for measurement, as I did not want to go to the garage and get the measuring tape.

Corsair_550D009.jpg

Here you have the bags that come in the white box.

Corsair_550D011.jpg

Two bags full of fan screws, a bag of screws for the motherboard and standoffs. A bag of screws for the HDs and SSDs. Three zipties (cheap bastards, they could have given a bit more) and two sticky thingies to wrap cable in. Four PSU screws, as mentioned before the two bags with the clips for the front door and last long screws for fans to mount to a radiator. To finish a USB 3.0 to 2.0 converter, which is nice in case you still have an old MB like me.

Overall it is a very nice looking case. One of the things I did not like was that you cannot mount the HD cage on the floor as the 650D. The plastic in the front (behind the door) looks and feels cheap. The P180 has better plastic in my opinion. I have no idea about the stock fans that the case comes with. I will give an update on how quite the case is and the temps once I move everything from the P180 to the 550D during the weekend.
