Got to try out an ultrabook for the first time

Its ok I guess. Specifically its this one. Its extremely slim and very stylish.

I decided to overlook the looks and see how hot the CPU can get because we here at OCN must know the limits of everything biggrin.gif

On one of the retail edge "webcasts" the guy representing Asus said that the aluminium body helps disapate heat so a small quiet fan can be used instead of a huge heatsink since the computer IS the heatsink. And it certainly does do that because when I touched the middle part of the frame, I almost burnt my finger.

That was after 4 hours of just prime95. Surprisingly, the fan wasn't loud at all. eek.gif

How do those temps compare to a regular laptop? Like an HP at some random store, you should run to bestbuy and run P95 on all their laptops to get a very accurate measurement biggrin.gif

Well the reason I got a 4 hour run out of it is because I work at the Office Depot where they have this one on display tongue.gif The $999 price tag is a little too much for me though.

I'l try and A6 and i5 2130M tomorrow when I go in thumb.gif

I'm not too familiar with that monitoring software, but why does it only show two cores?

Its a hyperthreaded dual core bro. rolleyes.gif

EDIT: You know, after seeing the max turbo of 2.7Ghz on that processor page, I'm wondering why it didn't do that while testing. Throughout the whole thing, it never past 2Ghz. confused.gif

I don't know anything about the mobile CPU market, my bad. That is pretty odd if it never went to 2.7ghz...that I wouldn't be sure about.

Power management settings devil.gif Well, actually, the max single-core turbo is 2.7ghz. So you'll have to run Prime95 just one one core (and 1 thread). I'm not sure on the max dual-turbo, maybe it's 2ghz if you can't adjust any power management settings.

2.4GHz is the dual core max turbo for that chip. However, the OEM can set a TDP limit in the BIOS (like what Dell does with their M11x line...), to whatever they like.
