All the info is in the OP - but for some reason people need reminders 1 week, 1 day and 1 hour beforehand. I have to do this at work too, humans are just forgetful creatures. This is just a video game scrim, however it is still a commitment to which you are responsible.
We need to make sure that classes such as engineer and medic really know what they are doing. On a map like Badwater, if our medics and engis are running around without a real clear vision of what they need to do, we will get walked on by their medics who are using ubers to take out our guns and break up our defense. The less organized we are, the less organized EVGA will need to be to completely roll us. The more we are organized, the more they will have to REACT instead of dictating the match. This is a competitive match, we're here to win right?
Sooooo let's prepare and do it right.
If nothing else, we should be aware of the important areas of the map, and the strengths and weaknesses of our classes on that map - plus the general offensive and defensive strategies at our disposal to defend and attack on that map. I know some of you have played competitively and some not, so I will just drop some tips I see as being valuable below:
- Medics NEVER EVER overextend, don't attack in the front, stay back and build ubers
- Use an uber if you feel like you might lose it, even if not optimal
- WHERE are the best spots to use an uber?
- Know the map layout in general, flanks, shortcuts (we should all understand what we call various parts of the map)
- Call out everything to your team "They are going right" - "Their medic is down" - "Roof is clear" - etc, etc
- Be aware of when we have uber, and when they have uber (going to be hard with 3 medics)
- Do not over extend and die - stay with your team and medics building ubers and staying alive
- SPYCHECK SPYCHECK for the love of GOD don't let a spy run around on us
- If we are losing the point, retreat and remount instead of dying for no reason
- Pyros NEED to airblast ubers away from the guns, this alone will give us a huge advantage on defense
- Help the support classes support. Keep the engi alive, guard the medics (one pyro may want to use homewrecker, etc)
If anyone wants to talk strategy outside of practice, send me a PM or hit me on STEAM - or post it here (der). If we all got organized, we could actually enact some planned tactics. And if nothing else we will all be thinking along the same lines, which goes a long way in getting 16 people to move as a unit.
