[FUD] Jensen on Kepler - Page 3

Lets hope that Kepler won't be a repeat of Fermi, used too much power and ran way too hot and performance wasn't even that great.

I bet it means that results are not good enough to make people wait. And Im not saying it wont be better, but if its only 5% better many people would just go 7970 now. Im in no rush myself though, I can still sli what I have and be more than happy since only on 1080

The card you are referring to has 12% more shaders. All that means is that the fabs couldn't meet AMD's target, so AMD cut the amount of shaders to get to market (and, judging by OC potential, they cut clocks too). Once fabs get production up to par, why shouldn't AMD release a part that has the additional units working and higher stock clocks? Nothing to do with fear, just an excuse to sell what should have been the 7970 as a 7980 and tack on $50-100 dollars for the privilege.

At the end of the day - we are all being trickle-fed these GPUs - everytime a new series of card comes out it becomes a feckin circus - Nvidia fanboys clamouring over Keplar like it's Magan Fox's G-string....

If i was the CEO of either company i'd have plans in place to lower the die shrink process down as far as it would safely go, and have a deal done with RAMBUS to get XDR2 or it's inevitable successor onto my cards before my competitors, but what you get is staggeringly expensive staggered releases which are only marginally improving on the previous generation - the only thing really decent about the new ATI series IMO is the PCie 3.0 standard being rolled out for the GCN cards... other than that it's like a dog chasing a laser pen across a waxed wooden floor. fun at first but then it gets boring and tedious soon after...

waiting is a better solution.......right now and those who are getting 7970 most of them JUST want the card and its a fun card

what if nvidia comes with a better product......nvidia should be aware of GTX400 series fiasco may be they dont want to repeat it

even if its 5% faster than HD7000...who knows may be AMD drop some price on HD7970 so its a WIN and no one will be regretting their purchase later

This is pretty much what happened with Fermi. The 480 was quicker than the 5870 but not by a whole lot, and it came much much later. And then there were the other issues with the cards

I just find it really hard to believe nvidia would let the same situation happen again. They're smart enough to learn from the past, I don't think they'll release Kepler until it's legitimately good. If that means delaying it so be it. I hope thats how they see it anyway, would really suck for them to release something that wasnt ready just because they felt they needed to get something out there asap.

They may end up being 5 months or more behind, you gotta make sure that the wait is worth it.

I guess they didnt want to be like intel and show a pre recorded video of what games will look like on their GPU tongue.gif

I can wait, my 590 is still ok wink.gif
