Tell your friend to click on this link.

http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/...isplay=drivers

Under support for your product:

put in the box the name and number of his unit like

[ Pavilion 512c ] and hit the little arrows to the right.

now a software and drivers down load page will load up.
Over to the left is a HP customer care box.
in this box click { product information }
it will be the 2 nd or the 3rd line that will say { Motherboard Specifications }
click that link.

Now everything should be their for processor type and max speed that the board will support.
memory type and the max it will support.
he would have to open the unit to see what power supply and watts.

i know on my old HP i had a 1.3 processor and the max was a 2.2
had 256 mb of pc 1600 and the max on it was 2 gigs of pc 2700
a 200 watt power supply that got replaced with a 300 watt
and a geforce fx 5500 pci card, it lasted 2 months until the mother board died.
Now I have the rig in my specs that I built and now I want to build another one that is better.
my new system.
