$200 or less earbuds

Thread Starter
Hey, my old headphones broke about a month ago and now I need a new pair. Most of the recommendation people give are the over the head sets. Any recommendations for earbuds under $200. My old headphones were the beats by dre tours (I know). I'll be listening to mostly french house music and prefer something with good bass. Also, my any recommendations for mp3 players? I've been using my htc desire for my audio and it just feels weak.

These are at the very bottom of your price range but they're pretty good and cheap.

My MP3 player recommendation would be the iPod Classic, there's plenty of storage capacity even on the cheapest one plus I like all the accessories and support it has. I also like how I can control it through my cars NAV.

Brainwavz M2
http://www.head-fi.org/products/mp4nation-brainwavz-m2/reviews

I actually own the M1 and they are wonderful, but the M2 are said to have better bass.
If of course you like these style of phones...

I own the M2's. I like them, and they're unique in my collection of headphones/IEM's in that they're not very bright - they're quite warm actually. This lack of treble sparkle at the top end makes music seem less "sharp" and clear, but it also allows you to listen for much longer without needing to turn up the volume (much less fatigue). The bass is very good too, for the price. Great for most contemporary music.

For MP3 players, get a Cowon for the best sound quality. Cowon J3 would be my recommendation. You could just get something by Apple if you feel too lazy to research it, but I hate Apple, so don't do it biggrin.gif

Sansa Clip+'s are the best value MP3 players available, but they're very basic. Excellent sound quality, low price. If you want something flashier, I suggest a Zune. The J3 is not bad as well, but kinda' expensive.

okay thanks, for the headphones the airwavz are fine. But if there is something that costs more but is definitely better I'm willing to drop the cash. For the mp3 players, are the sound quality noticeably different. Or all low end mp3 players usually the same in performance? Because I know with soundcards there is a noticeable difference related to amps(?) and ohm(?).

One more thing, would it be a wise investment to get an mp3 dac like the fio? also, are the airwavz better than the beats by dre tours?

If you can find Monster Turbines (either variant will do) around your budget price, that would be a good choice. They have very pronounced bass (deep, punchy, etc.) and would be a step up from your Beats.
