Looking to upgrade from a 470.

Not sure which card would be the best bang for the buck from a 470. I've been hitting my vram limit and frame rates haven't been that satisfactory lately. Wondering if I should upgrade (would like to stay with nvidia) to a 500 series, or tough it out until Kepler.

Not interested in sli. My motherboard doesn't have good spacing for it, and I don't want the headaches.

Consider the 7950, or even the 7970. Tahiti is a beast of a GPU, you won't have to worry about CrossfireX, and your VRAM problems will disappear faster than you can blink. Come to the ... red side.

Otherwise, a 3gb 580 is the only real upgrade you could get. A 2.5gb GTX 570 would alleviate your VRAM problem, but in terms of GPU power, it's not much of an upgrade from your 470.

You could hunt for a used 480 online, I've seen a few on ebay with acceleros already installed.

EDIT: Also, whatever you do, wait for the 7950 to enter the market after then end of this month. It'll throw a wrench into AMD's and Nvidia's current pricing schemes, and drive down prices of 40nm cards like the 5xx series and the 69xx series. They'll also be a bunch of used cards flooding the market.

Not interested in AMD at all really. I like my PhysX and cuda, and I never had a good experience with ati/amd drivers.

GTX590 or a 580 then is the only real upgrade to your 470 in regards to FPS.

Bf3, Skyrim, Just Cause 2, Stalker, Crysis, Crysis 2, Metro. These are the ones giving me the most trouble. Some dip into the teens, and that is where I die.

The 580 isn't worth it. Hardly an upgrade for the memory. Probably gonna have to stick it out till Kepler, unless prices drop dramatically.

Well, I was going to recommend a 580. However waiting for the new products would also be a great option I guess.
