Well i did it, i grabbed a 5970 for cheap a few weeks ago, and i couldn't be happier, it runs every game maxed out (BF3 i turn of AA to save memory) and it looks dead sexy with LED lighting coming from under it. The only thing that would make me happier.... Tri-Fire with an older 5830 that i own. I know its not going to give me the best scaling, and whatnot, but in most cases, im playing crazy games anyways, and i have yet to actually see 5970 + 5830 benchmarks. Anyways as an owner of an Ultra LSP 750, it has performed well enough substituting for a 500W PSU position with the old card installed, but when the 5970 is in, the system can pull over 680W of Power from the power supply (NOT THE WALL) i used an Ammeter to calculate this. now obviously graphics cards use the power from PCI-E lanes, and 12V rail, so if the 5970 drains about 300W MAX, and the 5830 drains 175W MAX and say hard drives drain 20W and a DVD drive say 30W while burning, and throw 7 case fans and a stream of LEDS, i should be drawing no more than 500W for the 12V rail right? Ultra claims 540W on the 12V rail to theoretically im safe RIGHT?!?!! so far, this unit looks to be one of the lucky batch ones, it was able to take my i7 860 at 100% load, run the hard drives and a furmark run on the 5970 for a full 5 minutes without failure. Would i be safe in Tri-Fire ? That is my question + my current rig obviously. Phadarus's PSU calc tells me 750W if i dont overvolt the graphics cards and drop the OC on the CPU. but how much headway do i actually have? can i safely run this unit with all this hardware?

Edit: 5 case fans, and i guess since i have dual 120mm on my CPU cooler, lets make it 7 just to be sure. 4 W each i would say. (assuming they running at max)

I wouldn't chance it, LSPs aren't good.

Your CPU also pulls from the +12V.

Ultra changes suppliers on the LSP series whenever they feel like it. It's a grab bag. If you're lucky, you have a mediocre Andyson 550W based on a design from 2003 which is insufficient for your system. If you're unlucky you have a 350W Yue-Lin or RSY junker based on a design from ca. 1995, which will probably explode when you put a serious load on it.

so it would be a good idea to take the LSP 750W, toss it in a basic system with 1 mid end graphics card or something and grab an AX750 or something?

aim higher with psu..looks like you want to play..and more power=better

965BE + 5850? but that draws like.... no power at all... i think i got lucky and scored the re branded Andyson or something because mine has been taking a much bigger load for quite a while now
