[Time] AMD’s Answer to Ultrabooks: Make ‘Em Cheap - Page 4

If it's as good as they demo'd at CES I am down in a heartbeat. Gaming grade Ultrabooks? At a super low price? Count me in. If it can handle games like WoW and Skyrim at a playable fps w/o dropping to the lowest settings, I would be in love. Always have liked the ultrabook aesthetics, just not the performance per $ ratio.

This.

I fell in love with the Lenovo U300, just... Won't pay 1.5 grand for it.

I love Trinity. I was very impressed by the video demonstration at CES in another thread. Very powerful. It would be awesome if it had a 8 hour battery life. This will be my next notebook...unless Ivy Bridge stomps this.

But seriously, a $500 gaming grade ultrabook with what will hopefully be a long battery life (17W tdp IIRC. It would be insane if a normal 6-cell battery with a 6 hour battery life with 35W processors double to 12 hours).

People buy ultrabooks mostly for the form factor and weight. The single component that contributes the most for achieving this is SSD which confidently drives the price up as well. Even if AMD is much cheaper than INTEL it's not going to change the price of an ultrabook too much given a 256gb SSD is around 400 dollars

AMD Quad core A8-3530MX (1.9GHZ)
6 GB of DDR3 RAM
Radeaon Dual Graphics 6770 (1GB)

Hybrid Crossfire. Lol. You linked the wrong notebook model.

This is the laptop used in that video. $2000? That's so CHEAP.

There are Ultrabooks without SSD's in them. The only thing an SSD changes is the overall snap of the OS to make up for weaker hardware and battery life. With these new APU's using so little power, I can easily see regular laptop HDD's coming back into the picture and maintaining a good battery life.

The only one I might consider would be the A8-3500 and that better be for around $500 tops.
Intel has the notebooks down already. What that they rule the standard market and the gaming market as well? List one gaming laptop within the past two years that used AMD as a CPU?
Really not trying to be a fanboy at all, I'm hoping that this Trinity APU will drop Intel for once, but AMD has been behind for a while in the CPU department... frown.gif

Yeah, I'd have to agree with this. Trinity looks promising, but so did Bulldozer. Really hoping this will be a knockout. Too bad I already got my Transformer Prime

Technology always moves on. Trinity is a winning package as is Llano. AMD showcased a low voltage 17w Trinity at CES running three monitors with Dirt3 playing on one and videos being converted on the other two. That means plenty of graphics power! Bring it on. I want a Trinity powered ultraportable.

Kinda makes sense really. t

At $1000, people see current ultrabooks, and they could get a Macbook Air at the same price (even if it is inferior).

As much as OCN hates on them, Macbooks are popular with normal people.
