6870 Issues with clock speed - Page 2

Try this;

Reset CMOS the load BIOS Optimized Defaults to reset the power cycle. Don't forget to set your boot drive.

Did it ever work fine before? Or this happens just recently?

Also use GPU-Z to check the PCIe the card is running at x16, x8, or x4. Post a screenie if you can.

Yeah it has ran fine before, it all started happening around the time BF3 came out. I bought the 1090t (Was using 720 x3 before) thinking it would fix the issue then but that didn't work. For awhile the entire computer would just lock up and I'd have to turn off the entire computer. That hasn't happened in awhile but the performance has went downhill a lot more since then. The motherboard I'm using is an AM3 motherboard. I had to update it to allow me to use the AM3+ 1090t. Think that could be an issue?

.486

It appears as if its running @ 16x.

If this is specific to BF3, turn off UAC then download and install Catalyst 12.1.

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/Catalyst121Previewdriver.aspx

Then turn the settings down such as AA and MSAA.

Or roll back to previous BIOS that supports the CPU and the version which was working fine.

From what I gathered, you replaced CPU, updated BIOS without re-install OS. If so, I think this is the issue. If we have few applications with the current OS, it might be easier to debug. Supposedly, Win 7 is smart enough to reconfigure after the CPU replacement. Guess, this is not in your situation.

This is my suggestion, backup and/or create an image file of all user data and an image for the whole data. Reformat and fresh OS reinstall, update motherboard and chipset drivers. This will take 1 day at most, not fun to do but troubleshoothing might go on for weeks with no guarantee of success.

Or you might want to reinstall the games and try each see how it goes.

Apologies for the late reply.

I installed the CPU when I was still running Vista (Was still having issues then, not as prevalent but still there none the less. The entire computer would just restart randomly.) When using Vista I had to update the mobo bios because it wasn't recognizing the CPU at all. I had to update it with the 720 still in it then switch back to the 1090 for it to work.

I purchased Windows 7 because I was going to upgrade my PC with tax return money in a few months and it was on sale. I pulled the trigger and installed Windows 7 probably 2 weeks agoish. I'm not having the same issues with the entire compute restarting but overall its just really bad performance as mentioned in the above posts. Now I haven't reupdated the bios on the fresh install.

I was never able to pinpoint why the entire computer was restarting but a fresh install of windows 7 fixed that. The problem in games is just really bad FPS when anything major happens. I've noticed in TF2 when playing on larger servers 16+ the FPS goes right down the drain to around 15fps when I was getting a solid 60 all the time with the 720.

It honestly seems like when there's a lot going on during any game the entire system bogs down. I can be doing nothing and then go to move / shoot / whatever I get FPS drop.

If this is on a single player, it might worth to look deeper but this is on multi player server, there are other code or netcode related to network and server. So, don't worry about it.

Have you did any heatsink work recently? If your CPU gets too hot you will definitely notice a drop in framerates. I suggest removing your heatsink and reapplying thermal paste just to be cool. ( Did you catch my pun there? tongue.gif) lol. Hope it helps!

I wish it was just a netcode problem but its occurring through multiple games and on different servers. My latency is fine.

I actually had to remove / reapply the heatsink 2 times before leaving it due to it not accepting the CPU at first without the BIOS update. I'll check what my CPU temps get up to when I get home from work.
