What FX for a gamer? - Page 2

As a longtime AMD builder, GET THE 2500k. +/- the K.

All AMD cpus will bottleneck any decent SLI/Crossfire setup (and there is no exaggeration there...), and if you're not overclocking, you need hella IPC to makeup for the lack of clockspeed, in which Sandy Bridge has such an incredible advantage it is no comparison. AMD chips are practically designed for overclocking, and I personally think that they release chips at lower speeds just so that people can overclock them and feel accomplished, or better about their purchase.

Don't get me wrong, AMD doesn't make bad CPUs... But Sandy Bridge turned out to be a monster I don't think even Intel expected.

FX 2500K is a monster.

Best to get the K series too since the price is so similar and it's really easy to do a mild OC almost effortlessly and get a good increase in performance.

You don't have to OC with a 2500K.. but it'd be a waste to not spend the extra $10 - $15 and end up wanting to OC it a year later and not be able to.

Or if he gets the 2500K and later says, "Damn, I still don't want to OC... wasted money..."

I would get the 2500K myself, but I've been there, and saved myself $10-15 before when money was tight, and never looked back.

You forget the money he can save buying a H67 motherboard, which in total would increase savings 50+.

No overclocking get an Fx8150. The gaming benchmarks I saw put it way up there with intels best and thats with no overclocking. Even people here address the "bottleneck" with multi gpus pointed at here....search some? I was against the fx before...then I saw some very positive post which at least gaming wise made me change my mind. Add in the cost of both which is not so different and I would take the fx over a 2500K biggrin.gif

You need to overclock FX though. Performance scales really well with clockspeed, and you need that extra performance especially when you compare it to a monster like SB

I own one. I'm not just saying it because others have. It WILL bottleneck higher end cards.
