Yep, your first pic setup will work better for cpu temps, gpu temps, mobo temps with 900 or 1200 rpm fans for gaming or running prime. The only time it wouldnt be better is if running prime + furmark on slow speed fans, which no reason to ever do, and even then just 1-2C worse mobo temp, but still better cpu temps.
