Just get a decent cooler and you should be fine. Get a Antec H20, no maintenance, cool, quite and same as if not equal to the best Air cooling you can get. smile.gif

Lose retail value? Psh. I would pay more for one so I don't have to do it myself. wheee.gif But, that's just me.

I lapped my h100 and my phenom !! 840 to 2000 grit mirror finish. used only a dot of thermal grease and I have great temps. Running 1.58volts vcore @ 4.309ghz. It was totally worth it to me because ambient temps of 36C I get max temps under load of 51C on the cores. Pretty sweet if you ask me and my little phenom that could that only cost $85 gets 5 points in cinebench. Its rather speedy and stays nice and cool. Plus lapping was fun for me. It was my first time and Id do it again. Just be careful as it is very easy to bend amd pins. But as long as its not too bad you can straighten out and fires right up. Good luck!

NvidiaFTW: Id lapp your phenom for ya bro no problem. It is really fun to me and even 4c difference was a rewarding feeling. With me its all about squeezing every last drop out. Im the guy that puts water in my hot sauce bottle when I run out. Shake it up and I got Mild sauce for a few more days lol. Even though texas pete cost like 89cent haha

Thanks for the offer, but I can probably do it myself and this chip is a really crappy chip. 3.7ghz with at least 1.475 volts. Piece o junk.

depending on your cooler and how badly concave your cpu is you will see 4c drop in temps, minimum. With my Phenom 9850 and cooler master gemini II, I lapped both of them and saw 7-9c drop in temps. AMD loves to run cooler and a difference like that in temps is enough to make a highly overclocked Phenom II stable.

As many people have confirmed, lapping the CPU/HSF is only good for 1-2C so it's not worth the trouble.
