[PCGamer] Bioware working on SWTOR content we won’t see for “over a year” - Page 3

So much hate for this game, I played WoW up until jan 2011 and loved it. Had to get out of it though.

But this is a nice refreshing change, same concept as wow. Just better story with terrible graphics. Trade off.

I find the graphics to be as good as wow if not slightly better. Though it could be more the animation of the NPCs that is doing it for me.

Yeah this is all nice and great, but first fix Corso Riggs because he is nerfing my already nerfed Gunslinger by pulling enemies towards me when my character is a ranged DPS class... we need all the distance we can get.... Keep in mind, I did switch his skill off yet he still does it tongue.gif

SWTOR is fine for a mmo that just launched a month ago. People are ignorant to think the game isn't doing well. It is the best MMO launch yet and I have played many MMOS during Beta and launch from Lineage, DAOC, Lineage 2, EVE, EQ2, D&D:O, LOTRO, WoW, WAR, Age of Conan, Star Trek Online, Granado Espada, AION, Rift, and Ragnarock Online.

People who think WoW is amazing and did a better job, obviously weren't playing WoW when it launched in 2004. Otherwise they would remember it had more bugs, Server crashes all the time, Continents crashed, Massive queues, boats didn't work, and no endgame. It took WoW time to get content, Dire Maul came out a few months after release, Molten Core as well. They didn't have BG's, dungeon finder, and UI mods till later. WoW went through several LFG systems before landing on Dungeon Finder years later, which arguably destroyed the game by turning it into a easy fest so PUGS could complete content.

BIoware took the best systems from every other MMO, made improvements, and threw them into a Star Wars MMO. SWTOR may not be a WoW killer, but it will be its #1 Competitor. SWTOR is a MMO that will grow and stay around.

If they had used their Mass Effect engine to create a Mass Effect MMO it would've made so much more sense. Instead they decided to stick their heads into STAR WARS (what is this I dont even), I can't even fathom why.
I guess because Star Wars has a colossal fanbase consisting of nerds who will buy ANYTHING with the words "Star Wars" stamped on it, even if it's a half-baked attempt at a WoW clone. Star Wars fanbase > Mass Effect fanbase so obviously Bioware went for whatever would result in more $$$. Whatever percentage of the playerbase that ISN'T consisting of fans instead consists of people who are simply bored of WoW and want to play a game that uses a different color pallette with 1-2 new ideas thrown in *cough* Rift *cough* .

PuGs completing content = game is destroyed? What? This is honestly something new to me. So according to you MMO's are better when only <1% of the playerbase can get a glimpse of endgame content? Content which the developers invested time and money in developing?
Because that's certainly how it was in in the "good old days" where 95% of the playerbase didn't even know what endgame instances LOOKED LIKE from the inside because they didn't have the time to commit to a raiding guild.
There's a reason heroic/hardmodes were introduced. There's a reason you can try raids on 3 different difficulties now with appropriately itemized and tuned gear rewards. The goal was SHOW people content that would otherwise be hidden from them.

Feel free to replace [Insert] with War, Rift, Aion, Lotro and anything else that tried.

Uhhh. You do know Bioware is the studio that launched the single most successful Star Wars game prior to SWTOR, right? As in SWTOR is a sequel....

Somewhat, but Lotro was the only one with a base as strong as Star Wars, and Lotro could and should have competed better than it did. Lotro's problem was they completely neglected the MMO part until far too late SWTOR launched with 4x the endgame Lotro ever had concurrently before going FTP. WAR did not release remotely balanced PvP, and they hung their hat on it, neglecting the PvE community which, sadly, is the majority of MMO players. Rift just reskinned WoW and didn't even attempt to separate itself. Aion, if you haven't noticed, is the 2nd largest subscription MMO available, it rivals WoW's Asian numbers quite closely, it just wasn't a Western-style MMO for the western market.

SWTOR got off to a far better start than any MMO and actually has the ability to keep it going. Look at the thread on this site, the single most talked about complaint is that it isn't pretty enough on high end computers... That's a minor problem compared to what Lotro/War/Rift/Aion faced a month after launch.

Somehow, $180 a year PER PERSON does not justify to the company providing free expansion packs. rolleyes.gif

If i spend 5+ hours a day playing at 15 dollars a month and getting updates/patches with it it's not to bad to shed 40-60 for a new expansion.

Console gamers spend 60 per game about every 1-3 months so who it actually winning here?

They're paying for a beta. Sad thing is it's EA's fault for pushing bioware to release when it wasn't done.

Care to explain all these problems? The only real issue I ran into were some quests I can't abandon and so far 2 mobs out of the whole game being bugged and minor graphical glitches. I'm only level 40 but I haven't seen any real problems that stopped me from playing. I wasn't part of beta.

Graphically this game trump WoW in every single way shape and form. And it's different than WoW cause its an MMO that plays as a single player game but with the option to play as an MMO. My only real problem is that more people don't play and expect that it's suppose to trump WoW on day one when WoW has been in the works publicly since 05.

You seem to think that your $15/month is 100% profit. You also seem to think they didn't spend anything in development costs.
