Desperate man, just desperate.
Well, there has to be some truth to it. EA could have made a Mass Effect MMO with no repercussions and I would bet it would have been selling about half as well...maybe more, but there isn't anyway to know. There probably needs to be a good ME movie out first and they can't even get out of a negotiation meeting on a ME movie successfully yet.
However, 40% of all revenue from the Star Wars MMO is going to Lucas Arts. EA would not have been willing to cough up that cash had there not been a reason. They could have made the very same MMO and change the name of the planets, classes, and replace a few races that are iconic to Star Wars with something else... but they didn't. The Star Wars name was worth it to them to pay the royalties. So I think the "Star Wars fan boy card" actually has some value.
(Edit: looked it up quick...it's actually 35%
, but that is still a lot and I swear I've read 40% before)

Do you know what KOTOR is?
There was a KOTOR MMO rumored a few years ago, but if it ever even existed I think it was vaporware...was one actually made? I know I haven't heard about it, but that doesn't mean it isn't out there.
I could careless about Star Wars, but I would like to play a Scifi MMO...though I can't really get into this Star Wars one. I think it was due to the voice overs. In the beta I played about ten hours or so...and good share of that was spent listening to NPCs talk. I'd rather just read a few paragraphs in a few seconds and continue about my business. I am a lore nut so just clicking through the dialog isn't really an option for me.Edited by Vagrant Storm - 1/13/12 at 7:40am
