If you really want the 3930K, I'd suggest to wait for the C2 stepping. If I am not mistaken, I heard it should be coming out this month.

Thread Starter
i think i will go with the intel 3930k. It has the same gaming power of the i5 2500 maybe more maybe less but very little in either way. Plus if i need the extra cores for multi threaded apps and possible games in the distant feature then there, there. I know this well be my last build for 2 or 3 years so i get the most power at the time of purchase. I may even be able to upgrade to IB-e I7 if i get lucky and they keep the same chip-set. My only concern on the whole matter was if i did get a i5 2500k or i7 2700k if i was going to lose any game performance. At this point i am ready to move on to the next issue i face which is whether a 1000watt power supply will support this cpu with 2 gpu and with fairly high ocing. Keep in mind i don't wish to sli until 600 series hit. (come on gtx 670 msi, what u got for me) Til then i will keep my lonley gtx 570 twin frozr III with its mear 1.25gb of video memory.

No, you don't need a 1000w power supply, but you do need a good one. Go download Phaedrus' power supply estimator.

I hit 4.7ghz with my 2600k on stock intel cooler with full load only 69 degrees. You will be fine with anything as long as you minimise voltage and maximise multiplier. Hit the sweet spot wink.gif

He's talking about a 3930K though.

Definitely a lot hotter than a 2600K.

Took me 5 seconds to OC my 3930K to 4.8GHz @ 1.41v. Getting ~65C 100% load with Prime 95.

Takes 12 hours thought to see if it's stable.

Ran 50 instances of Intel Burn Test on maximum, 3DMark 11 and couple hours of P95. I'm 100% stable.
