Sorry about that. Are the SB 2500k and 2600k better for games than my 975?

Yes. They overclock better, run cooler and have a faster architecture. But, there is no reason to upgrade with your current cpu and graphics power atm. Just overclock a little more if you really need more power.

Technically, it would be the 3960x. You'd have to disable HT, and overclock the heck out of it to get that performance though. The second, once again, hypothetically, would be the 2700k with HT disabled, and overclocked like mad. As HT has shown to be detrimental (1%-2% AT MOST) in gaming.

Basically, get the 2500k.

Not all games. Actual PC-titles like Crysis 2 and BF3 use HT.

3930K is way overkill for just gaming.

2600K is still overkill for gaming but more cost effective.

2500K is best bang for the buck. Core for Core its as fast as 2600K and 3930K.

As a gamer I regret buying an i7 as it is completely useless for gaming.

Get an i5.

i5 Sandy Bridge? Seriously? I always thought a regular i7 can perform well. I still wondered if sandy bridges are that really good for gaming? I'm still using a i5 760 processor and i always wanted to buy a i7 but price was a bit still high for it. Waiting on it to drop cuz i would love an i7 anyways. My mobo supports it. I still would have considered a Sandy.

The 3930k could possibly be slightly faster, but only at low resolutions. If you are playing @ 1080p or higher resolution there is ZERO difference between any of them. Hyperthreading does nothing for games and in some instances actually reduces performance.
Go with the 2500k, overclock it to 4.5ghz on a hyper 212+ and call it a day if this is a gaming rig. 2500k=2600k=2700k=3930k if you are gaming.

you trollin'?

2500k=2600k=2700k=3930k

it's clock for clock the same -- 2500k compared to i7's.

so logically the i5 is the best choice for gaming here.
