Conroe that much better for gaming?

Thread Starter
Ive been doing alot of research on Conroe lately mostly because of its sheer performance in what i thought was every category. I know it kills AMD with superpi and those benchmarks...but is it really that much better than AMD in gaming? I saw a comparison done with an conroe at 2.8 and an amd at 2.8 and the only difference between the 3dmark06 score was 200...which is nothing at all. Anyone have any comments?

200 in 3dmark06 = nothing? ahahah. Not really man...200 in 06 is a LOT.

Oh, and Conroe has been seen to overclock to 4.0 on air...which absolutely pwns ANYTHING amd can offer...

That's because cpu has very little influence on the 3dmark 06 test. Seeing a score increase of 200 just from the cpu shows that it's much faster.

lol any points from 3Dmark06 is a pretty good improvement. I gained 400 points from switching my 7900GT to X1900XT and clock it at XTX

i doubt it to be honest, raising it that high will make it unstable most likely

Hows this. My old Opty 165 clock at 2.8Ghz run Oblivion 1280x1024 with HDR and everything max and I average around 26-28FPS. Now with E6300 @ 3.4 i got 37-38FPS

I tested my PCIx at 105 and it was too unstable. But, then again, that is chipset and GPU sensitive.

Anyway, the Conroe is making AMD work for a living. It's fast. Now, you can choose between AMD and Intel and your only worry is the type of Mobo and, consequentially the video card(s) support.

Also, the Conroe consumes significantly less power and performs the same as the last generation at a much lower MHZ speed.
