Yeah, that PCIx speed is TOTALLY dependent on the MoBo chipset and video cards. I don't doubt your claims. But, in my circumstance (running 7900GTX's and the cruddy NV4 chipset)) They just won't go any faster.

Anyway, we are jacking the thread. The question is, is Conroe that much better for gaming. Answer yes. How do you quantify it? Goto GOOGLE and search on Conroe VS AMD. You will find a slew of tests. I would post links, but they are outside Overclock and I'm still really unclear on the policy of linking other websites.

All the TOS does is confuse me frankly.

You can post links to other sites just as long as you do not have a personal stake in the site i.e. something to gain monetarily from linking it.

Pointing to another forum equivalent to the functional purpose of OCN could be contrued as trying to get members to move to another forum.

Most games have been designed to run on P4 systems, so anything > than a P4 4.0ghz is just a plus right now.

In early 2007 around Vista release, many games will start using an X2 3800+ as the line, rather than a Pentium class processor. At that point having a Core 2 Duo/Quadro will start showing more benefits, but until then the difference should have little to no impact on your experience.

Aside from Oblivion...what's 90fps vs 80fps? Where I live X2 3800+'s are significantly cheaper than Core 2 Duo processors, so for people that aren't overclocking, I recommend everyone get X2's. I think that's how AMD has been playing this, actually...

Yeah, that's a good point. Are you JUST gaming? Or do you have higher aspirations? AMD makes a fine gaming CPU and it's cost effective.
