Zowie AM Tracking - Page 2

So it looks like my Zowie AM GS has some firmware flaws at 1000 Hz on the 450 and 1150 steps that result in negative accel at around 2 m/s. It doesn't happen at 500 Hz or the top 2300 cpi step from what I can tell. Out of the box is 450 cpi / 1000 Hz so unless Zowie fixes the firmware or you change from default it will have negative accel. You'd think the default setting wouldn't have this kind of issue.

I'd put max. tracking speeds at around 3 m/s. I can't be more precise without some sort of calibrated turn table unfortunately.

Interesting, I'll hopefully get my AM in on Monday so Ill see if I can check the perfect control speeds.

why you need a firmware wouldnt switching to 450 dpi 500hz fix the problem?

unless you can feel a difference between 1000hz and 500hz.

You need to keep in mind that max tracking speeds vary on different surfaces. It's good to see that you get similar results to those here->http://www.overclock.net/t/1177120/zowie-am-gs-pictures-not-really-a-review/50#post_15835382

What software do you use to log and plot? if that's not a secret wink.gif

so the tracking speed is 3m/s and the abyssus is like 4m/s or 5m/s without accel or skipping?

450 cpi step measures about 500 cpi using a ruler and raw counts
1000 Hz polling is consistent
Zowie AM-GS 450 cpi step @ 1000 Hz on Puretrak Stealth
216
Abyssus @ 450 cpi step @ 1000 Hz on Puretrak Stealth
221
Dots are individual reports
Black line is moving window average, 8 samples (8 samples ~125 fps)
Looks like perfect control is only at 2 m/s before negative acceleration, then it hits malfunction. Compare to Abyssus plot which hits over 3 m/s without malfunction or sign of negative accel.

What tool do you use to capture data and draw graphs?

Thanks

The logger is one that I wrote using C#.NET. Most of the code for raw input can be found online in various places like codeproject, msdn, gamedev. The only custom part is the high precision timer and logging to .csv file.

I import the data into [R] for plotting and some calculations. http://www.r-project.org/

I am merely lamenting the fact that it is not as good as it could be out of the box. A little more QA and every available setting on the mouse could have worked. You'd think the out of the box setting would be the best or at least without flaws. Zowie is clearly not the only one, they are merely one of many gaming mouse vendors that release products with issues.

yes your right but i am just happy that at least the problem is fixable.

microe, soy the mouse in 450dpi @500hz can track up to 3m/s ?

Can you do the tests with the deathadder ?

Was thinking the same thing. I tend to hit 3.5 m/s occasionally while playing and the Zowie isn't skipping or showing negative acceleration for me. Using an Allsop Raindrop XL.
