Radeon HD 7970 Installation Issues

Thread Starter
Hey all! I just got my 7970 yesterday and installed it. At first it wouldn't go past the windows starting screen, but thanks to sandy bridge iGPU, I switched to that which allowed me into windows. Once there I installed the NEWEST drivers straight from AMD website because the ones that came with the Sapphire card were from the beginning of December 2011. Once I installed the drivers, everything was working fine, games, videos.....

Except for 2 things:

1) Windows Aero themes don't work so I'm stuck on basic right now.

2) I can't access the CCC menu.

When I try accessing CCC, the outline of a window shows up but nothing else....

Anyone else having these issues or am I going to have to wait for another driver release (which is who knows how long that'll take)......

Did you use driver sweeper and wipe the old drivers before installing the new AMD drivers?

Download the driver to your desktop along with driver sweeper. Reboot to safe mode, run driver sweeper and sweep the AMD drivers, reboot to standard windows, install drivers, reboot again, repost results. This may not have any effect, but it may help out thumb.gif

Edit: Shoot, i forgot, usually I start off with uninstalling the AMD CCC by running the new driver and clicking uninstall. Then start at the begining of this post lol

Uninstall the previous Catalyst.

Then turn off UAC.

Go to Control Panel > User Accounts > change User Account Control Settings > move the slider to bottom > restart PC.

Download and install Catalyst for 7970. Do nothing else.

I actually tried all of those. But I just got it going!! I used system restore to put it back to the way it was before I messed with it. Put the old card back in, uninstalled the dumb Nvidia drivers, swapped out cards again, and POOF!!! Everything is working flawlessly!

But anyways, cheers to my good friends that took time to help me out! HAZAHHHHHH!!!
