The rule goes small "b" for bits and capital "B" for bytes.

i know how big 1MegaBYTE is 1024KB!!! but megabit!? no frickin clue!!
first chance i get im switching to fibre optic.

What does fiber have to do with anything here, your router will still display mbps megabits per second.

You can change speedtest.net to display in MBps megabytes per second.

Its been explained in this thread already.

mbps = megabits

MB/s = megabytes

There are 8 bits in one byte calculated as mbps / 8 = MB/s

Bits are a measure of bandwidth. Everything connected to your motherboard is also measured as such if you have looked at the specs (ex, SATA III 6 Gbps). Bytes are a measure of storage. Your RAM and hard drive are measured as such.

I wish I could get that here! I only get a 25Mbps connection and it costs an arm and a leg. I download at like 1.5 MB/s max most of the time though and only from really good servers.

That about all you're going to get out of that connection. Most ISP's allow you to go over your allotted bandwidth during low-use hours, but they also might throttle you during peak use periods. Try testing your connection during early morning hours and see if its different.
