Well, I've been looking around for a good alternative to use in my current setup; as I have 8 x Delta PFC1212DE 120 x 38mm 1550 - 5500 RPM (Custom PWM controllable) Fans,
(as well as 4 x Silverstonetek AP121's). I really love the Deltas - solid, heavy, double bb, etc. What's not to like about fans that can make even your heaviest PC tower levitate off the ground when on full blast !!!
But even at 1550 RPM, all 8 fans working together still make a low whiney humming (LWH) sound, that started to get to me a bit. If it was just one or two fans then I'd be okay with it, but... Anyhoo, I then saw this link from ehume
in his sig, as he was giving me an alternative to use these 4250 GT fans as an alternative:
I decided that I was going to go this route, but at $250 for 12 fans and then having to buy a decent soldering iron and having to go through all the trouble to get each and every individual fan wired and welded properly, I was looking at a lot of time (that I don't have) and even more money spent (along with a soldering iron that probably would have cost an $30 for a decent one). Also, I've read some comments from other on this forum that have experienced that LWH that I have already have on my current Deltas. The GT's may lower in that audible sound, but I just didn't want to risk the same possible issues, (plus all the work that I'd have to put into getting them to work with my custom PWM controller). I then saw a comment that morencyam

I contacted Stephan at Swiftech and spoke with him about the advantages of this z-bearing fan over sleeve and double bb type fans. He explained everything well enough for me to make the move to get these fans instead. Believe me he wasn't trying to sell me on anything, he was just passing their personal testing and found that z-bearing fans would be more benefit than than sleeved (when it comes to how long they last) and double bb's (when it comes to LWH issues). I have since cancelled the near $300 order and purchased not 12, but 15 Swiftech Helix-120 fans for my whole system. I figure if I can get at least 2 years out of these fans it'll be worth it for me. Plus, I'm a reseller for Swiftech and got the fans for less (which is one of the other reasons why I purchased these fans). We'll see if I made the right move or not. At least they will definitely not pull as much amperage as the Deltas, and will be much quieter... I'll keep you all posted and share my results with my current setup & temps and the temps that I'll see once I hook up these fans... Later... Edited by PunkNugget - 5/16/12 at 2:46pm
