New fan competition for Gentle Typhoon (Swiftech Helix) - Page 7

Well. Fans are installed with the h100 in the new case. Porting everything over tomorrow, so I'll be able to let you know how they do. They look really good in a black case.

Well, I love the fans. They're doing a good job in push only right now on the radiator as intake keeping temps down, and they're dead silent. Gonna grab another 2 once I get some low profile memory to give me clearance for p/p.

Good for you Droogie !!! Told ya. Sometimes it's better to just go for it and try 'em out. I haven't recieved mine yet but it's great to know that they're working for you so far. Can't wait to get mine soon.

On a side note... I was going to say a comment to a particular comment and reply on this post.

I'll say this, sure, they might be the exact same fan (or maybe not), but wouldn't it be great to just pick up the phone (tamas and Droogie) and give Gabe Rouchon (who was involved in the production of the Helix120's) a call (or email to him at gabe@swiftech.com) and present your question(s)? At least I was able to speak with Stephan and get some important questions and concerns answered on these particular fans. Just a thought...

Again, Droogie, I hope your new Helix120's give you the performance you want and last a very long time (as I hope it will do the same for me). If they don't I'm more than positive that the guys at Swiftech will take care of you... Later... :-)

Have you had any experience with Scythe GT AP15 fans before?

Would been awesome if that were the case, so you could tell us your opinion about the difference smile.gif

Now if they make them in 140mm as well, that would be awesome smile.gif

Well at this point since there are no real comparison reviews on this fan, so it's going to be hard. The only "real" review that we have is this one:

http://martinsliquidlab.org/2012/04/28/r9-fan-testing-gentle-typhoon-ap-29/

The only thing is, it's an RPM regulated fan by Titus and it was glitchy fan to begin with (according to Martin). Not a reliable enough review to really showcase the Titus fan, or for that matter the Helix120 as a comparative fan, as it's constant RPM is 1800.

I have an idea, do you have an extra AP15 to give him to test the difference between the two? That would be great if you could... smile.gif

I bought 2 of these fans. I'm interested more in the noise level in comparison with my AP-15's. They should be here on Wednesday.

I have both AP-15's and these new Swiftech Helix fans. I actually replaced two AP-15's with these fans, because I have a black and white theme, and the AP-15's stood out too much. I'm not an expert on fans, so I can only tell you what I've perceived. The fans are almost completely silent, even at 1800RPM. My temperatures haven't changed a noticeable amount. The only real difference that stood out to me is, the price. I paid less than $10 each for the Swiftech Helix fans, and around $18 each for the AP-15's. Now, I will say that the AP-15's feel sturdier, they are just, heavy. They feel like they are built very well. I've noticed that when I powered them off, the blade would still spin for around 15-20 seconds. This isn't the case with the Swiftech fans, but honestly, they look a lot better, and I can't tell a difference in noise or performance. All in all, they aren't expensive, they look great, they aren't loud, they perform well, and I'm very happy with them. biggrin.gif

Well Omegawd, that's really great to hear this information. As of today I had finally received the 15 x Swiftech Helix120's and I have tested each one of them out; horizontally and vertically for a half hour each way (to find out if there would be any noise variances) and found nothing wrong so far with any of them, so I'm going to replace all my fans with the Helix's. These little fans are extremely quiet !!! In fact I'm still testing them and I can't even hear 'em. Mind you I have an audio-file ear and I can hear everything very well. So I'm blown away by the performance. Now Omegawd made a statement saying: "...that the AP-15's feel sturdier, they are just, heavy." I would say that the AP-15s are the 120x25mm version of my Delta PFC1212DE 120x38mm fans. Those bad boys are HEAVY and built SOLID as well. I know that I'm going to have those fans for years to come, but I'm going to have to split them up put them in other system builds and not ALL 8 in one PC; too loud for me...

As far as the quality of the Helix120s and them being the "same" as the Titus Kukri fans; well, I think that's obvious. They just have a reduced 1800 RPM max as opposed to 2,200 RPM max that's on the TK fans. My thought is (and this is just my opinion) that Gabe at Swiftech probably figured out that they start making far more noise at higher RPMs. Wise choice on his part to keep them at 1800 RPM max.

If anyone would like to order any of these fans and try them out, PM me and I'll see what I can do to help you guys out if you want them (or any other parts for that matter) as I'm a reseller for Swiftech. I had purchased the last 15 that they had and Swiftech is now out of stock as of 5/16/12. I'm sure that they'll have them back in stock very soon. I know that they're other places to purchase them, but if I can get enough PMs coming in, I might be able to help out a bit on the price. Just let me know...

According to the Z-Bearing design and the talks that I've had with Stephan and Gabe (at Swiftech), I'm sure these will last 2 to 3 years before they start to have issues. Who knows, they might even last longer. I'm also sure that there's going to be a few of these fans that might go out from either me or one of the other forum members from time to time (as with any fan), but at least they're warrantied for 1 year from the date of purchase. That says enough for me to trust them. I'm glad (so far) that I took the leap of faith and just purchased a bunch of them. Now it's time to install my new fans and start UNDERCLOCKING my Xeons X5690s on my SR-2 system !!! Later... cool.gif
