love playing CoH! but i was wondering if this is normal..

hey everyone,

i just bought company of heroes today after trying the demo and a couple of rounds on my friends pc and it was alot of fun, ive played for a couple of missions now and i always notice that there are fps drops sometimes. im running the game on max settings ( with AA at x4)

so i start the game with fraps and indeed, sometimes my fps drops to the 20s - 30s whenever i move the camera around (the 3D camera).

i was wondering if this was normal or if there was something wrong with my setup. i have all the latest drivers and CAP btw. my setup is in my signature(if it still says i have 8gb ram, i only have 4 gb now)

i have tried it with both crossfire enabled and disabled, i still get the same fps ( ex: will be playing , will be around 120s - 80s , then suddenly drop to 20s - 30s sometimes). ive also noticed this is when i have more units on the screen, but not that many maybe like 4 or 5 squads ( 2 of my squads and 3 of the enemy squads)

any help is appreciated

p.s. im running from company of heroes anthology btw, not from steam. i assume its fully patched from it though?

edit: btw my resolution is 1600*900

I know nothing of CoH, but I will say that alot of games these days do have trouble with only 4gb of system memory. You are definitely not bottlenecking on CPU or GPUs so that's my best guess.

That is strange, however I dont think it has anything to do with his amount of ram, as CoH came out in 2005 I believe. I recall I had no problem playing it with a Core2duo with 2gb of ram and a 8800gtx. Maybe try reinstalling your graphics drivers??

I play Skyrim, BF3 , and have over 100 other games that I have no problem running with 4 GB. Which games have trouble with 4GB system memory? That is way more than enough for CoH. I had a lot of graphics issues with CoH and could never figure out what it was. I tried different drivers, clean installs and some other things I can't remember at the moment.

thanks for the replies guys, so the framerate kind of sorted itself out i guess, i was working with radeonpro and it just kind of stabilized? it doesnt go below 35ish when in the heat of battle anymore so thats a plus, either that or i got used to it ( fraps says it doesnt though).

however, im still getting a flickering issue with the ground/shadows in the missions. has anyone ever experienced this? i think its a crossfire issue since i dont seem to have it when its disabled/ or i dont notice it when its disabled.

again thanks ill re install my drivers though, that might help

edit: i saw this video about a flickering issue for CoH,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96Yljp--Ph4

its kind of like that, but instead of the ground flickering it is the shadows flickering.
