Help on mem timings

hallo i was tring to boost my super pi score so i was playing around with my mem timings, now that i have maxed out my board on cpu speed. i tried my mem, usually i set my timings to 2.5cl.3.3.8 today i set them to 3.2.8 and it droped to 39 secs so i went back (and every one always says that timings are always better when there less) and took the trans or the last #(8) to the lowest it could boot at. it booted at 4 and nothing changed but when i booted it on 2 my score went back to 41 can any one tell me what this # does and where is the best place for me to leave it my timings now are ddr466 2.5cl .3.2.8 with a score of 39secs
