[Crucial] m4 0309 Firmware is out! - Page 11

So the guide says "The upgrade process will not work with some drop-in HBAs (Host Bus Adapters) or 6.0 Gb/s ports" and I'm not sure if that means "some HBAs and all 6Gb/s ports" or "some HBAs and some 6Gb/s ports).

My mobo is a M5A88-V EVO which only has 6Gb/s ports. Anyone confirm that they were able to upgrade firmware over a 6Gb/s port?

I did. I didn't even see the 6gb/s listed in the guide until someone else mentioned it. No problems at all.

Same can be applied with the firmware, you know it is going to fail and when it does, you could face other problems. It literally takes 3 minutes to do, and then you will have no worries. It has been shown that this firmware is stable by Sean and others, everyone else is running it no problems where as 0009 has. /rant

You misunderstand. I want to see if there is a bug in this firmware before flashing my own drives and then there might be more problems than I have now.

It's like jumping off a bridge because everyone else is doing it. I need to see whats at the bottom first. I will flash this firmware if more users over the next week or two report no issues with it at all. Don't rant without thinking about what people are saying first. It's just a moot rant where you can put it in the bank to spend the rant later haha

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you.

But not in this specific case. 0309 is 009 firmware with the bugfix applied. That's why it does not follow the conventional naming scheme. Any problems with it, we'd have already run into them like we did with the bug.

I completely agree with you normally, why update when there's no need, but this firmware is a fix for a firmware which is known to be faulty. Let me use your analogy, so your on this bridge, your running across it and there are people to your left and right jumping off the sides into the unknown depths below, however then you see it, if you keep running you will end up into a pit of lava, death is certain. Do you: A) jump off the bridge like the others to save yourself, despite not knowing whats on the bottom?
OR
B) Keep running untill you reach the end, and ultimately die in the lava.
Ok, not the best analogy, a bit of fun, but you get my point. You may aswell update the firmware now, as many people have already updated without any problems, and who have run it with no bugs, this firmware seems alot more reliable than the 0009. My advice, which you probably won't take onboard is to update now, save you the time and effort for when you really do have to update..

LOL hahah ..

I see what you guys mean about it being 0009 with a bugfix after doing a lot more research. I did apply the firmware this morning to my 256GB. Thanks for the clearing up the cloudiness for me.

Ill give both of ya rep for helping me out.

Not sure If anyone else has had to switch to IDE yet, but I had to. I kept getting a screen that would say "No DEFAULT or UI Configuration directive found" until I switched to back to IDE. just a heads up if anyone else has this problem.

I mentioned before that this firmware's instructions no longer had the switch to ide step in it. All previous versions did.

Seems like they should have kept it in there if it does effect some boards.

I've never switched to ide more or off my 6gb/s ports and it worked correctly each time.
