Temp Differences between cores i5-2500k?

Thread Starter
First Off, I just finished reseating my Cooler with Artic Silver 5 and immediately, I noticed a 9C drop across all cores when running IBT. The thermal compound has not really been broken in, so hopefully it drops more. I think inititally, i had had too much compound on there. I'm not really sure how much the Arctic Silver made a difference.

Now, my question is that I still have a significant difference in temps bewteen the cores. It is roughly the same difference as it was before my reseating.

Min Temps: 27/27/25/22
Max Temps: 72/79/77/74

Is this normal with an i5-2500k? It seems that core 2 and 3 are always a bit higher than 1 and 4. The numbers are not so dramatic when runnign prime95.

Specs:
Ambient Temp ~ 21C
i5-2500k
Gigabyte Z68PX-UD3 Bios F9d
Hyper 212+
Antec Nine Hundred
Saphire Radeon 4850
16GB (4x4GB) G.Skill Ripjaws X 14900 running at 1600MHz
Intel 120GB 320 Series SSD
4 additional 7200 RPM drives

This is perfectly normal. Your temps won't drop much more (normally 1-3c) after the burn-in time required with Artic Silver 5. At least that's from my experience with AS5!

Yes, it's completely normal for some cores to be slightly hotter than others. Mine does the same thing.

Same here, mine are 4c-7c apart from one another at any given time.

I get it as well, my cores fluctuate upto maybe 4C of eachother but no set pattern like yours. you are saying your two middle cores which you said cores 2 and 3 are always higher than cores 1 and 4. i dont think its normal that the same 2 cores are always hotter that the other two.

although your temps are fine and the difference is much, you could still if you want to still reseat your hyper 212+ making sure you get a nice even not too thick or thin spread on your TIM. use an after market tim such as artic silver 5 edit you have used this sorry i think is one of the top togs. put small lines on the surfaces between the heat pipes which should give you a nice even spread acroos the cpu surface smile.gif

AS5 is no longer the tog dog since a while now.
It's good but newer thermal paste don't have cure time.

Gotta say it's a matter of a few *C.
I used AS5 since I bought a huge tube a while back.
I don't care much about the cure time.
I get on core 2 : 9*C less than other cores. I don't know why but it's like that
