Thread Starter
I just installed SUSE 10.1 on my laptop, and I need some help getting started Its been a while since I worked with Linux, and the last distro I used was Ubuntu. Basicly, I want to get things like flash, mplayer and WINE installed.

they should be by default. If not find Yast and go to software management then search for them and install.

hmmm. You will have to find the rpms then. Look for popular thing such as media players here. http://packman.links2linux.org/ they also include te stuff left out eg mp3 support. for flash you might have to hunt a bit for that.

Just install them yourself. I Hate YaST, I find it to be too slow, so I use Smart now. I'm working on a FAQ for how to do that.

Go here to get flash.
After its downloaded make a folder for it and move it in their and but the folder some where where you will remember it. I always put mine in the users home bin, so
Code:
cd /home/usernameHere/bin/flash/
then run the following command once your in the directory that contains the flash file
Code:
./flashplayer-installer
Wine should be in YaST though.
You can get it here though too.

Mplayer
then configure it your self.

./configure
make
make install
make clean
