omg I fixed it

post #1 of 5
Thread Starter
ok so after 3 broken hdds much ticking from the drives failure of the drive and a dvd drive thats decided that it wouldnt read dvds withough crashing the pc i have finaly fixed my problems.

Basicaly i had my 300gb hdd on master and teh cd drive pluged in like this:

CDROM========300GB============Motherboard

so i though why do i not have my master drive at the end of teh chain this is a bit stupid. So i unpluged the chain and swtiched the CDROM and 300gb cables around so it looked like this

300GB==========Cdrom=======Motherboard

Now the drive is fixed no problems with either dvds or reading / writing from 300gb disk.

Does this have any logic at all ? why would it fix teh problem

Why do you even have a HDD of that size on the same cable as the CD-ROM. That in it's self will drag the HDD down to the CD-ROMS speed.
Anyway, always best to have the HDD as Master when sharing a cable other devices but it's best to have each of those on seperate cables for the best performance.
HDD Primary Master
CD-ROM Secondary Master
Unless you have 3 HDDS and the 300 has to share with the CD-ROM.

yer. I have | 50GB | 80GB | 300gb | CDROM
and SATA | 80Gb (for games). But seriously this shouldnt cause drives to click etc weird. I was thinking it might be something to do with termination at the cd drive

Not sure about the technical part--but if it actually solved your problem then this is a bit of useful info for others.

You generally will want the HDD to be on its own IDE cable than optical drives.
