Thanks EA. Saved me $85.47 and I have the GameStop receipt to prove it. thumb.gif

Support a company that supports SOPA? No thanks.

EA can't beat this kind of advertising. Positive or negative, you guys are talking about ME3.

Let people live in their own paranoia. They probably scared if they hang around women they'll catch cooties also.
At the end of the day, these are video games. Channel your energy and passion towards real world problems instead of in a forum where no one really cares.

Read and learn. It does nothing. You're the one who does not understand the extent of permission changes and procmon.
The reason this whole thing started is because someone who doesn't realize that programs scan through directories all the time saw Origin do it and panicked. They didnt understand what it was actually doing when it said "WriteFile" and "ReadFile". It wasn't actually accessing the file itself. That's is not what those operations mean.
Before talking, actually understand what you're saying and defending. You clearly can't see what is infront of you.
At least Funkdrspot is being open about the situation, and is not one-track-minded like you.

Steam gives you a choice in the matter, which makes it 100% different. Origin has a box you can check, but it scans anyway.
Does Steam upload your Data to a non-Valve website? I haven't seen it, if it does feel free to show me. I will uninstall it straight away and reinstall it into a Sandbox with Firefox and other various programs.
Scanning the HDD isn't too big a deal, its the uploading it to others part without my permission. Which is partially solved by using programs like Sandboxie.

You just ignored everything I said.
Neither STEAM or Origin uploads data without your permission. I never was saying STEAM is uploading files without your permission. I'm simply saying it does the SAME scan Origin does. It doesn't access files.

Both programs are proven to not upload files without your permission. Where have you been?
Origin certainly doesn't upload data to a non-EA website. If you're implying that, where did you come up with that?

Do you know what procmon (Process Manager) is? You were certainly running your mouth off as if you did, but clearly... you don't.

Oh, and the scan STEAM did happened the second I turned STEAM on regardless of what checks I have. You don't have a say in the scan. There is no "choice."

I know all it does is read the file names which is why I said it isn't a big deal. But Origin is uploading those file names to other non-EA Websites. By agreeing to Origins TOS you agree to upload and share this data(Unless they changed it in the past 2 months). Which are mostly worthless, other than to see what EXE's you use and how often it is accessed. It scans your registry for what hardware you use so they can see what the target market's computer equipment.

Their are screenshots of them uploading to an Amazon IP and an Akami Technologies IP, there is a third IP they upload to which I do not recall at this time. Those screenshots are buried in the 411 post thread. If you can explain those IPs then feel free, but I don't trust it. I don't like it, and for that reason alone will not use it outside of Sandboxie.

Steam will ask you point blank Yes or No, they aren't forcing you to agree to it in their TOS unless its changed since I last skimmed it. Like I said before other than the Hardware survey, if Steam shares data with anyone else show me and I will put it in a sandbox as well.

Read and learn. It does nothing. You're the one who does not understand the extent of permission changes and procmon.
The only thing it's doing in the case of QuerySecurity is finding the permissions (ie user ownership of a file). The most primitive and basic operations of a computer. EVERY program does some function of this. It has to.

If you don't want to use Origin. Fine, I honestly don't care. It's your thing.
If you said something like "Oh I hate the UI, the store front is meh, it's too resource intensive, it crashes a lot, I just prefer STEAM, or even I just don't like EA" then fine. That's all legitimate.
But at least have the right reason before spewing crap out trying to defend it like "They may not be competent enough to understand the full extent of permission changes or how to use task manager/ process monitors. "
It's the EXACT OPPOSITE. You don't.

Dropping some real knowledge.

Neither upload data like you are implying, run a network monitor and origin at the same time, you won't see anything out of the ordinary.

The revised Origin EULA says you have to agree to anonymous data collection. I don't know if this data is unique identifiable as to create a profile of anonymous users. The original EULA had verbiage that suggested a lot of data collection to third parties and was very vague on what data they could monitor and collect..

Uploading to Facebook, Amazon, and Akami right there! So tell me again how it isn't uploading? Explain why its necessary to send and receive data from those sites?

Could you do the same for Steam, as I'm sure there's already going to be questions about Steam real soon.
