Firefox is rather crappy under Linux. It's not that bad, but pales in comparison to its Windows counterpart.

I'd stick with Opera, I use a linux system at home and I've never had any problems with Opera.

As for firefox... It hates linux, with a passion...

I've never had a problem with Firefox. I think it works great under Linux. So does Opera though. If the size of the text is bothering you, you can change it under view->text.
Are your graphics drives installed?

Weird, I know. At the moment I'm running the Windows version of Firefox (with Wine). Not only is it better, but flash actually works.

im using firefox on linux right now and it's fine. Have you gotten DRI enabled? If you haven't then it might explain the choppyness

How do you check for DRI? Is it the same as having direct rendering?
