Cant really speak for any other games.

The i3 2100 is a hyper-threaded dual-core but it does use newer architecture. I have an older gen i5 (first gen) hyper-threaded dual-core and at stock clocks i have no problem running black ops smoothly as hell the only game it has struggled on is 64 player Battlefield 3. Though the OP would probably benefit majorly from getting a better graphics card for around 100 dollars if possible, like a gtx 460, or even 6850.

technically you can play a game at 1 fps.. so its still "playable". By that means he can run any game now and in the future...

i dont think its ridicules. a man playing the same game at 60 FPS v 30 FPS on a FPS (the genre). Will perform better at the higher frame rate. Therefore making the game more enjoyable. I dont see whats wrong with setting high standards. Computer hardware doesn't have feelings.

Brand new GTX 460 (base clock of 788 on the core) 140 bucks....

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125412

They had some 130 bucks PNY 460's but they sold out in a heartbeat. That's the same 460 I have and it clocks like a champ:
th_285677x64.png

That card and the i3 will run a lot of games well.

I game at 1440x900 and overall my system is slower than yours and I run BF3 all HIGH x4AA, 16xAF, Post Processing Medium, Ambient Oclussion HBAO and it runs fine.

Yes playable is subjective for one person he may perform optimally once the FPS is around 40 but for another they might need 50 FPS to reach their optimum performance.

I agree with you on the point that 60FPS is enough for any person to reach his/her optimum performance what I don't agree with is that optimum performance is necessary to enjoy the game there is a playability zone 30-40FPS that is non-optimal but not horrendous. Setting high standards is perfectly fine.... if you have infinite money but most people don't. I will agree with you on the last point as well computer hardware doesn't have feelings.

Ok there is 1 more reason why i choice 60.. thats because most LCD operate at 60Hz... So if you get more then 60 FPS the extra frames are just skipped.. So i makes no sense to push for more after that..

There are 120Hz monitors on the market. And although the difference may not be as big in performance between a play player 30-60 then 60-120 it is still optimal to play at the higher frame rate.

I dont have infinite money. Most of my rig is recycled or made of used parts. the only original things on my rig is the Mobo, case, SSD and CPU cooler.. thats it.

and when i mentioned that the hardware not having feelings, i meant that its ok to say that its just not good enough. (Dont try this on your girlfriend)

You'll be able to run most games fine at low settings. The problem isn't the i3, despite what a lot of people here seem to think. Its your graphics card. Ignore the VRAM, you need something with more power like a 5770, GTS450 or better. VRAM doesn't matter at all in the slightest if the card can't use it, or if you'll never use that much at your resolution (1-1.25GB is more than enough for 1080p mind you).

GTX 460 1GB should be doable in that range, used. Or a 768MB one new.
