What would you define as conflicting? You have reviews saying it's cooler, and you have reviews saying it isn't. You might say it's because of different testing methodology, but unless the ambient temps between different reviews are 10 degrees, I wouldn't expect that much of a difference.

I wouldn't really say 8 saying its cooler and one french guy says its hotter as conflicting. More like the one review that had it running hotter had some other issues going on.

XFX is a pretty shady company, I would never buy anything from them. In addition, a couple degrees off the GPU temp is definitely not worth so much of an increase on the VRMs.

There must be somebody of who has an XFX 7970 that can test this out. If it turns out to be true that's quite a massive mistake from XFX.

Yeah I second this, I have seen many reviews stating how wonderful they think XFX's design is, although they weren't based on temperature you would have thought someone high up on youtube would have noticed.

They don't have the lifetime anymore? Well there goes all incentive to shop xfx.

Are you completely blind? Look at the pictures in that post that you linked. The first one is indeed the GPU temperature, you got that right. Take a look at the next two pictures, the first one is of a reference HD 7970 showing the VRM's at 81.6 degrees and the second one is of the XFX 7970 with the VRM's running at 101.6 degrees.

Sorry if I sound angry or something but I just can't stand it when people post stuff like this.

If I can borrow the IR temp sensor from work tomorrow, I'll point it at my ref. Sapphire card to compare.

Those pics are shocking eek.gif

Know what's even funnier?

I thought to myself, Nvidia might lose this year's race if the 7970 is successful as [insert any word here]
But when I heard that the 7970 literally shuts off the fan when not required, yeah, I am gonna have to LOL there.

Not taking the chance to stop my fan from spinning.
(all passively cooled systems are an exception)
