So with hours of BF3 in eyefinity I have come to the conclusion that.... yes... this XFX Black is THE JAM! I'm now at 1220/1650 under 1.2v temps staying around 75c and my tri-fire didn't play this smooth with this kinda of frames per second biggrin.gif

I own an XFX 7970 BE DD since 17 january and it has none of the heating issues described above. The card runs great at its factory overclock and even at 1125/1575 setting (using Afterburner) everything is smooth! (Scores ~P8380 on factory oc and ~P9100 on max mhz in 3dMark11).

When I put my hand over the card, the hottest part is above the VRM position, but I am having a hard time to believe that they reach anything near (not to mention above) 100c, as the GPU itself never goes over 66c in games (with fans at 50%) and the max I reached was 74c in furmark (with fans at 60%). Therefore the cooling solution is adequate.

I am sure that the guys on the french review site had faulty card which heated up too much. Mine has capacitor whine, for example. My previous XFX 5870 never had issues either and their customer support is great, as i've contacted them (about the capacitor whining) and they even asked me if I want to RMA it.

I dont see why so much hate on XFX, cert their cards are not made of the best quality component, but I think they are fine.

I don't honestly think it's HATE for the XFX cards or Brand ... I own one of their HD-5770's and it's still going strong, but another card DID fail and I couldn't get a warranty, so they'll never see my $ again.

That said, I think it's more of the "cert(ainly) their cards are not made of the best quality component" statement you just made ... so even you KNOW this ... meaning it's FINE if you know that going into the purchase, and realize that the Lifetime warranties are more of a Sales Gimmick than anything else. In the end you DO get what you PAY for, and there is a reason XFX stuff is usually cheaper, as long as people know this going into it and accept that condition as part of their purchase, I have no problems with those that want to buy an XFX card to save a buck, but personally I'd rather buy a Higher Quality Product that I know will perform better in the end from a company I trust more, and I'm fine with a shorter duration warranty as I assume that if there is a problem to be had with the product from faulty production, that it will most likely show up within the first year or two of service and I'll get it taken care of.

Do you guys realise we are talking about vrm temps? These have nothing to do with core temps. Your core could be running at 60C but the vrms could be much hotter aroung 100C. We know the cooling is great for the core on this card it is the vrms we are worried about.

It will run fine for now. But with higher temps on the VRM's, they will die quicker then the other cards which run cooler.

So, as I am half-French and I also own this card, I actually took the time to go through the whole review of this French website that posted pictures with the VRM being over 100c.

What have these guys done? They state near the end of the review that "the test was performed in an improperly ventilated case which is not suitable for open-air GPU coolers, and if it had been a well-ventilated case, the temperatures on the whole card would have been much lower". Not to mention that they are using Intel's default CPU cooler which blows hot air RIGHT ON the VRM on the GPU.

To conclude my post, I have to say that it's a shame that the guy who posted the original link of these pictures on the guru3d website (the OP of this thread gives the link to that thread) doesn't talk french and simply wanted to flame something at that moment. The DD cooler of XFX is certainly not as good as the aftermarket cooling solutions of ASUS, Sapphire, MSI etc, but it looks cool and it doesn't have ANY problem cooling the card in a "properly ventilated case" like mine, or anyone's who buys this card. (Cause if you plan to spend £500 on a GPU to put it in a budget case... well lol).

Edit: I wanted to add that its a total fail from AMD that they placed only one temp monitor system on the core of the GPU. The HD5870 is being monitored in 3 different places, one of them is the VRM temps...
