just wanted to make sure since ive never overclocked my i5 this much before

Thread Starter
hey everyone,

i was wondering if my i5 is at a safe voltage still, been running it like this for about a week now with no problems(no bsods, artifacts, anything)

cpu voltage 4.6V

im running it with cpu core voltage at offset mode, and underneath it, it is reading +1.344V.

is it a safe voltage to run it at +.035V?

ive only ever overclocked it to 4.6V and i think at +.030V so i wanted to make sure i was running it safely.

thanks for any help

im confused about the bold and underlined part, im hoping you mean 1.46v, 4.6v would instantly burn out a processor as soon as you powered on.

lol sorry about that, i mean that im running the core clock at 4.6 GHz ^^

and the voltage is set to offset mode and it says +1.344V and under offset mode i set it to +.035V.

i was just wondering if that is a good voltage to run it at. could i try and run this chip at 5.0 GHz? i only have a hyper cooler 212+ in push/pull

I'm no expert but to help put your mind at ease I think your happily within safe territory there

my i5 is running at 4.8ghz with max CPU Vcore of 1.38v which I'm told is safe. this is run in offset mode at +0.080 but with the cpu load line set at a low level of 4. (motherboard is ASrock Z68 ex3 gen3)

You would be able to run this chip to 5ghz with that cooler setup I think if your willing to try. I haven't got the patience to bother going further with mine. I'm using an Antec Kuhler 620 and max temps are 65c so I'm happy with it for now.

wow!! i didnt know that i was that low in my offset voltage!! ill definitely try to get to 5.0 GHz then, im running load line calibration at level 4 also, should i set it to level 3 or 2 or something?

thanks for all the replies so far, its definitely set my mind at ease ^^ + rep for that

edit: will increasing my GHz to 5.0 help in shogun 2? i was hoping to run it with the multiplier for the units size set to 2, but when i did it when my GHz was at 4.3 GHz, the game would slow down when the fighting started

ok an update:

so i did everything the thread " complete overclocking guide for sandy bridge asrock motherboards". updated BIOS, set all the settings in the bios menu to what it told me to do except i kept it at 4.6 GHz and voltage at +.035V. ran prime95 for 20 min and it was fine just to make sure.

then i ran it to 4.7 GHz at the same temperature and i couldnt even start my computer( it would freeze at the screen where the windows logo appears out of blackness). iver tried uppthe voltage to +.045V, and lowering the cpu load line calibration to level 2, but nothing worked. after many attempts, i could only get as far as the log in screen after the windows logo screen before it froze. i couldnt even test if it ran smoothly.

is there anything i can do, or does this mean that the highest i can get my i5 is 4.6 GHz? would buying a new cooler help( ive been thinking of getting a corsair H60 or H70). thanks

don't forget about the thing called 'the silicon lottery' mate. Some chips just don't get there no matter how many volts you push through them wink.gif And seriously between 4.5ghz and 5.0ghz you're not going to see any performance difference.
