Who's got a 2P or 4P rig? - Page 3

Yes. From my understanding you can leave a socket unpopulated.

I'm still waiting for my board and memory to arrive, I have 4x 6128 so far. Btw, why can't multicpu systems compete in TC?

Each team would need to have one to keep it fair.

If there are this few 2P/4P systems working for team 37726 the new rules are really going to slow the pace down. I have read comments on some of the other forums that made it sound like very few people used the core hack.It seems that the core hack was a substancial part of team 37726.Now I know that you can still use the core hack but they will get you by closing down on time allowed.Either way I think we are in trouble.
I have always wanted a SR-2 rig but it is hard to get that amount of dedication in motion as what else are you going to do with a 2P rig?

I've always thought that if you do a lot of heavy design/CAD, having a 2p/4p board would be a good investment for your profession (and maybe a tax write off?!) - isn't that what high end workstation boards are designed to do in the first place? Sure, software costs for having your own at-home workstation would add up...

considering the absurd price of many cad programs

but those are details. Minor details.

I guess you could also use them for servers of some kind... minecraft maybe.

You can make a real nice rig to run SolidWorks with and just have 1 processor (and a heavy amount of RAM).Trouble is a retail copy of SolidWorks is a bit above $4000.00 (same for AutoCad)

EmCAD has Alibre Design, really good CAD software for $199.

And yes, I'm hyping them because I got on early as a beta tester and have it for free tongue.gif

i have over 10 2P and 4P systems but i cant/wont fold on them since i use them for work and most of them are older and would get less PPD than my sig rig with all the other stuff running on them :-P

You neglect the ~$1000 yearly subscription/update fee tongue.gif It must have cost my school a fortune to license it for hundreds of computers.

But realistically, it seems as though there wouldn't be much purpose for a rig with that much crunching power to most users. I think it would be neat to have a 2p/4p rig...

...except that I'd never use it for anything other than folding.
