PII 965BE @4.0

Thread Starter
Hello all new to the site, just a question i have over clocked my cpu by upping the multiplyer to 20x200.9 and it's running fine at this speed, since i havent messed with vcore or fsb or anything else and idle temps are at cpu-30/mobo-36 under load cpu -36/mobo is 38 using asus probe.
What would or if any harmful effect will the overclock have on my cpu if any, thanks.

4 GHz with no voltage increase?

Yeah I dont think thats gonna work. Have you stress tested your rig yet? Download Prime95 and run it a little while. Im gonna bet that itll crash within seconds. Youre gonna need some more voltage to get 4 gig stable.

As for hurting your rig, as long as youre keeping your temps down below 50 (60's is the redline but Id prefer to stay out of the 50's), then it wont hurt anything. If it becomes unstable, your system will crash but unless its a poor motherboard, it should fire right back up. Ive BSOD's my poor little ASRock about a billion times over the 3+ years Ive had it and its always fired right back up like nothing happened.

Do you mean that you've left the vcore on auto and haven't touched it manually? What's your current vcore reading?

That board has a bare 4+1 phase setup. Running at that OC will result in performance loss when the system is put under load due to throttling of the CPU which is meant to protect the MOSFETS when they overload/overheat.

That OC may have a more harmful effect on the board than on the CPU mate.

The voltage rages from 1.42 to 1.44 according to asus probe,i take it thats high, ill have to see if asus probe need to be updated!.I havent overclocked anything since my old pentium4 rig years ago so bare with me.Anyway this board is supposed to have a ton of safe gaurds when it comes to overclocking,if all were to go wrong it auto rests itself and so on.
I guess ill do some more research in overclocking this cpu,but it seemed so simple that's kinda why i got this board and cpu other components.

Forgot to mentiom vcore is same at 3.4ghz also.

Also...smile.gif i have played BF3 on utra setting and other games for hours with this setup with no ill effect's.

Refer to Gappo's overclocking guide in my sig. It should make things much simpler. smile.gif

4.0Ghz requires around 1.5v usually.
