I am aiming to upgrade my computer for (or by) Feb 1st, just one component.

I am not a game "fanatic", never play First Person shooters and largely preferring RTS gaming. Thankfully RTS gaming nowadays ain't as demanding as FPS's are.
The point is, I need to find out exactly what my bottleneck is. Comp Specs are:-

-Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7300 @ 2.66 GHz (Which i clocked to 3.20 but cant confirm, suggest a away to confirm it? Used the GIGBYTE ET6 to overclock)

-GIGABYTE EP43T-UD3L

-DDR3 2GB RAM

-Radeon HD 4670 1GB

(I need to be able to run R.U.S.E. at mid-high settings without AA)
(Also SupCom)

My motherboard only supports the intel core 2 series and i was planning to buy the most powerful Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme.

Windows Index-85

So, recap:- Tell me what you think is limiting the other and suggestion on which would be the best replacement. (Will try to post the voltage of power supply)

This is my first post here and I am really hoping to find an answer. Ive spent close to 3 hours a day searching the net for a possible answer.

Well getting another 2GB of RAM would definitely help you and RTS games are generally limited more by the CPU so yes getting a Q9550 or better would be a good idea.

there is no bottleneck, the 4670 and e7300 are a pretty good marriage together, even if not overclocked

if u want to upgrade for cheap for an eventual i5/i7 setup look into this. You can put ur ddr3 and 4670 into it that setup and have a nice upgrade path.

only thing u might need is more ram

He means that you could buy that motherboard and a new processor, while using your current RAM and graphics card. Then later down the road you could get a better graphics card and some more RAM. Basically you would slowly build your self a new system.

ill remember to take a note of that, but after a few serious conversations with a nerd friend and educating myself i decided to buy the GTX 560 (and power supp if needed). Ill upgrade the rest of moi comp when i can no longer play la games i want on full.
My friend has the same specs as mine (though he has the 560 already) and can play moi games on full - eliminating any shred(s) of doubt.

One other thing though, if i want to overclock the card-can my chassis handle it? Right now it NEVER goes abovee 48 degrees.
Its the-
R4 BULLDOZER

(I wont be able to part with it, ever)

THanks for all the helpful answers, this is the best hardware forum ive seen in quite some time. im looking forward to spending more time here.

not a terrible move since you probably have a limited budget and just want to game better.

I still think going with that 1155 setup I showed would have been a good longterm investment but I understand people have a limited budget and go for what matters most to them.

Just to give you an idea...

I played RUSE at full graphics, at 1680x1050... with my previous pc....
Intel Core2Duo E6750 (@2,8ghz)
GEIL 4GB DDR2
Nvidia GTX260 (core 16)

So in my opinion, it should not take that much (extra) power to play it at full graphics....

Sure a GTX 560 is a real nice upgrade, but if RUSE is your only target... I think a GTX 560 might be overkill for RUSE, maybe even for your current CPU and PSU....

P.s. If buying a GTX 560... i really would like to advise you to buy the MSI GTX 560 Ti 2GB Twin Frozer II, it`s only a little bit more expensive... but has some real good overclocking potential for later...

Hope i could help! Good luck! thumb.gif

I dont like that tone...lol jk tongue.gif

I'm planning to buy a complete new gaming system next year, or atleast when a new RTS-i-cant-cope-with comes out. Im buying the 560 (or 560 ti) to run two upcoming RTS's and the RTS games of the past years on full setts. ( Ive been waiting to play Supreme Commander for much too long!!drool.gif)

When i bought my current set, the 3GHz IMac was cheaper! If i only i had been just a bit smarter...doh.gif
I'll keep the board you suggested on file though, and thanks.
