960t on water

Thread Starter
I upgraded to a Corsair 600t case and Corsair H100 cooler running in just a push configuration with the fans on the top of the case blowing in. Managed to hit 4ghz with six cores with about 43c Prime95 load temps at 1.476v. What is everyone else doing with this CPU on water?

4.2 at 1.42v stable on water. Probably going to push to 4.5 hopefully sometime this week. Just the 4 cores as the other two aren't stable. This is with old apogee gt and swifttech mcr320. Loading at 30c but should probably add 10c to that considering its Thuban arcitecture.

30c load? Damn. I can hit 4.2ghz but its not prime95 stable, it blue screens pretty fast. I am afraid to give it more volts considering I already need about 1.45v for 4ghz. I should be happy with a 6 core 4ghz CPU for the price I paid though.

I managed to get it linpack occt stable 1 hour run at 4.3ghz but with 1.5 vcore. Will probably keep it back at 4.2 since it runs stable at 1.42 at that speed. With adding 10c to the ihs temp max temp during linpack at 4.3ghz was 42c not to bad.338

Nice clocks for you as well. I just got the fx 8120 in the mail as I wanted to play around with it. Should be interesting on the 890gpa-ud3h board.

I'm still reading up on OCing before I actually give it a go, but from everything I've read so far the HT Link should be kept as close to 2000Mhz as possible. Which is why I'm curious as to why yours is 2600Mhz? I'm probably missing something which is why I'd love to know and learn. smile.gif

EDIT: Thanks for the info hout17!

And sorry for the hijack Xylene. I have a 960t waiting to be installed (waiting for mosfet heatsinks and want to practise on my X3 first) so it'll be nice to compare my Air with your WC setups.

You aren't missing anything some people think you get better performance keeping it at 2000 others think its a bottleneck if you aren't pushing it past. Some think it helps in overclocking the processor for stability reasons.

I like overclocking and I enjoy pushing other things besides just the CPU. Everything appears super stable so far.

You wont hurt anything by pushing your ht past 2000 but if you feel it is affecting your performance then by all means keep it at 2000.

Dunno, but I think I read somewhere that the Thuban cores might be different. From my own testing, I'd say, leave it in sync with the northbridge frequency. Mine is also at 2600 mhz. If I run it 2600/2400 or 2600/2000 it will error out in prime by the end of the first test. Ran it about 10x to confirm it was the cause. Put it back in sync (2600/2600) and it runs and runs fine.

Remember, it's all just guidelines. Different systems will operate differently. As long as you take a slow and steady approach, and work on one variable at a time, you'll do just fine.
