I think you should spend the extra mula now and get a 7970? because of your 1 pcie 16x slot?

As far as i know first reference cards and Sapphire Toxic version can unlock to 6970 without a problem, if you don't have problems buying used stuff you can find unlocked cards here in ocn, if you want a new one i think you should try to get a 6950 Toxic 2gb.
