Thread Starter
My computer is running a bit hot not to bad about 45-50C. It's about 10 degrees hotter than it has run in the past. What could be causing this I've cleaned it out a few times in the past 2 months and checked all the fans It just wont go back to what it was before. The only difference is I just installed Windows when before I was running only Ubuntu now I run both. Any advice appreciated.biggrin.gif

Windows normally runs hotter just because of all the background applications, Ubuntu is more lightweight and often offers better performance. I suggest running Ubuntu to see if your temps go back to the way it was before, therefore you can isolate the problem.

Are you referring to your case temperature or CPU? While dusting you may have nudged the heatsink too much, causing the thermal paste to be disturbed. You may want to try cleaning it off with rubbing alcohol then applying a stingy amount of Arctic Silver (about half a grain of rice, no more; and none of that cheap white stuff.)

Also, it's winter here, maybe the heater is affecting your ambient temperature?

reseat your heatsink and apply new thermal paste.

there are good thermal pastes from cooler master which are cheaper than arctic silver.

you will see 1-2C diff. in temps between the arctic silver and a good tim from CM.

the cost diff may be 5-10USD tough.

if 1-2C diff is worth it,go for the arctic silver.if not then there are other options.

there is a thread hers on thermal pastes.do a search and you will find it.

Thermal paste totally escaped my mind I have not reapplied since I've had the CPU. I'll also check into the temp differences from Ubuntu to Windows. Thanks for the fast replies every one.thumb.gif
