7970 or 580 ? What do you reccommand for this rig (see rig spec) - Page 3

Considering AMD going to release series 8000 this year I would go for an used 580 and grab later a better card if needed...
Still got my 5870 and I am able to play every game at very high setting in every game @1200 resolution! I don`t really understand the immediate need of going for the best of the best now. On the top of that, Nvidia is a bout to release their new gen of cards I would definitively wait to see what they have to offer against the 7970!

Yeah I guess it would depend on where you live but here in the states the GTX580 is only a little cheaper than the HD7970. So if you're looking for a card right "now" I would go for the newer one.

You're from australia....
I'm not sure if OP is from Australia, but here in the states it's $40 more expensive from the 580 and same price as the 3GB 580.
My point still stands.

EDIT: Saw your post, sucks your prices are so inflated :/

And that's a 580 you linked.

The 7970 is a better GPU over the GTX 580. On a single 1920x1200 resolution monitor not so much so than in multiple monitors. The difference on the game benches on single 1920x1200 resolution monitors across the board is 8-10 FPS between the two. The 7970 really shines widening the gap at higher resolution on multiple monitors.

So get which ever is priced lower for you (depending on where you live) for best bang for buck. You'll be happy with either honestly. The difference is 7970 best single GPU and the 580 second best single GPU on the market now. Not too tough and it boils down where you give more worth to.

Good luck. Great cards. Enjoy. thumb.gif

Well all that GPU talking leads me to the next stage.... The PhysX dedicated gpu... Does it worth it ? Can it be any type of card ? AMD/Intel , what card you would reccommend to go with my single or crossfire 7970 ?

Nope. Higher end Nvidia GPU can take care of PhysX on their own. No need for a dedicated PhysX card. PhysX can only run on Nvidia GPU. Not that PhysX is really worth it.

Ok so you mean that I can't use PhysX if I have an ATI gpu alone correct ?
