Decision Help!

Hello,

My goal is to play BF3 ULTRA everything 4x MSAA at 1900 x 1200 Single Monitor. My questions below!

My RIG, waiting on GPU's only frown.gif

i7 2600k Stock
8GB Corsair Vengeance
Asus P67 Sabertooth
2 x Corsair Force 3 SATA 120GB
Corsair TX950W

  1. Should I get 2 x GTX580's Classified or 2x 7970's? If 7970's what manufacturer should I go with?
  2. Should I wait for NVIDIA next gen cards?
  3. For any of the above choices will my TX950 be sufficient for non over clocked 580(SLI) or 7970(SLI)?

Thanks!thumb.gif

well to play ultra all maxed out your going to be wanting 2 cards. I would go with Nvidia IMO because the drivers are easier to work with compared to AMDs. When you compare 2 580s against 2 7970s.. ya the 7970s will be faster... but what are you going to be noticing if you have vsync on wink.gif 60 fps is 60 fps. Basically anything above sli 580s does not matter it will already be up and over the top wink.gif

For a setup like that you can get by with a good 850 watt PSU. I would look into either an AX850 or something like that. Maybe even an HX850. the HX is silver and the AX is Gold.

oops sorry, I thought that was a list of things you were going to get. If you already have the 950 then yes you are fine, that will be more than enough. Corsair makes great quality PSUs and they are very conservative with the ratings of their PSUs.

I've had AMD for the last 2 gens, and yeah I've a lot of issues with drivers, many issues because of CF... But I cant speak of the Nvidia ones since I never had to deal with them.
The 7970s are much more powerful cards, so if you have to decide now, well go for those. But if you have more time, then do as I'm doing right now, waiting to see what Nvidia will bring to the table.

ahhh hmm might not want the headache of drivers for BF3. But I really feel if I get the 580's now I'll miss out on something newer and better - this is what usually happens anyways in the PC parts world. rolleyes.gif still so undecided but thanks so far!

What case are you putting the two cards in? Will you run your SSD's in RAID 0? Do you have a mechanical storage drive for storage and backup? What about overclocking your CPU? BTW, you can fill out your rig specs --> My Profile --> Create a New Rig

If money isn't an object.. Why not go 2x 7970's? But, don't go to Newegg.. They are sold out of them frown.gif

if you were to buy a new EVGA 580 they not only let you put aftermarket cooling and keep your warranty, but they also offer a 90 day step up program. So if you buy it now and sometime within 3 months a new card comes out, you can swap for that card and pay the difference if there is any.
