Did I not put my Hyper 212 EVO in right?

Hi guys,

So I just finished my first pc, but I had a little trouble figuring out how to mount the hyper 212 evo. I thought I did it right, because my temps are ranging from high 20's-low 50's max (average high 30's, even during intensive gaming). However, I noticed something the other day. When I moved my pc I opened my case to see if anything shifted inside, and I accidentally turned the heatsink. I saw that I could swivel the heatsink around above my processor, clockwise or counterclockwise. Although it doesn't shift on it's own, I didn't realize this was a bad thing until my friend told me this was abnormal. Now I'm afraid I will get air bubbles in the paste, and I'm sure while turning the heatsink some of the paste got on the side. My question is, although the the heatsink is secure in place (meaning it wont fall off or shift on its own), is the ability to turn it a big enough problem to remount it? Any idea of what I might of done or not done for this to happen, or how to fix it? I really don't want to take my motherboard out of my case again, it was a pain getting it in and I fear I may damage it while taking it out.

I will put up pictures and a video explaining it better eventually.

Appreciate the help!

its fine, people ask this all the time but even when its all the way secured on there it will still turn, no air bubbles will happen because it will just smear the TIM thats already there but if you didn't lift it and put it back you will be okay, I moved mine and even took it off and put it on without changing the TIM and it still works well and has decent temps. As long as your temps are good you are okay to go

well,

all the coolers of the 212 series swivel either clockwise or counterclockwise.

once or twice by mistake is ok.

it wont do much harm unless your TIM is conductive.

yes it will smear the TIM,which also is not good but surprisingly it doesnt affect temps.

happened to me when i tried to remove my fans from the 212+ for cleaning.

if it happens 4-5 times,i would suggest you remove it and reapply TIM.(just to be safe,it happened to me only once.but from common sense i would say after 4-5 times, its time to remove the cooler and reseat it.

also once you have the back plate in place, you dont have to remove the whole motherboard.

Yep. Normal. My 212+ turns like that too. I have acidenatally turned it a couple of times, never affected temps.

Hey all,

Thanks for the replies, but I made a video just to be sure this is what everyone was referring to as normal:

It actually seems to move just a bit more than mine. Mine is a different cooler though (212+). Still... if your temps are normal, I wouldn't worry about it.
Oh... and have you tightened the strange middle screw? Does the EVO have one? I don't know if it helps any though.

It really isn't a screw because the hole it goes into doesn't screw into place, but is this what you are referring to?

On the heatsink itself there is a horizontal ravine and there is a whole in the center where that scre goes into to. But it isn't a screw hole, it's just a regular whole that doesn't lock in place.

That's it... I really don't know what it does... I guess nothing then.
